Battery drain by index service

Anybody know what the index service is & what is its purpose? All of a sudden in the last week I noticed the battery discharging at a faster rate than I ever saw before, and looking into it, saw it was by a program called index service. If I force stop the app, the battery discharge rate returns to normal. The option to disable the app is unavailable, but when I force stop the app I notice no different in the performance of the note 3. Any ideas?

I believe It has something to do with the sd card but I'm can't say for sure
