Battery Drain during Flights

It has been a few months since getting my battery replaced and I get pretty good battery life again (two full days with watch shut down at night). I flew cross country this week (and back) and noticed that on my 6 hour flight to LAX, with my watch in airplane mode, that my watch ran out of juice before the end of the day, when normally I would end the day at 60%. Next day, normal battery life, then the next, when flying back, same thing. Airplane mode for long flight and battery died before I got home on second flight. Anyone have any idea why this would happen? I figured airplane mode would kill the radios, preserving the life of the battery, not drain it real bad. Not sure what to do with watch on flights now except turn it off (and not have a basic watch capability during flight).

Thanks.
