Battery drain during group texts

I've noticed that I've been having huge battery drains when getting a lot of group texts. Not sure if this is normal. My signal is usually pretty good (Verizon) as I have three or four bars (I'm usually at home or work when getting a lot of group texts). This usually happens when watching a game on TV (like the Stanley Cup Final) and a bunch of friends and I would text. My battery literally drains by the minute. Over the course of an hour, I could lose about 50% of my battery when about 60 messages are exchanged between the group. Normal?

take a screencap of battery usage and see if thats the only thing draining it.
go to
-"Apps"
-Then go to "settings" (looks like a gear)
- finally go to "battery"

from here you should see exactly how quickly your battery is being killed and it should show by percentage, what is killing it the most.

id recommend taking screenshots(hold power and home) for others to look over.

generally speaking in my experience, that's actually fairly normal if the brightness is all the way up and hockey games are something like 2-3 hours long (i think). if you had wifi on, theres also the chance that "auto-updates" ate away at the battery

I'm noticing the same issue with my S5.
I'm in a group conversation with 3 other friends. On days when all 4 of us are texting to the thread at the same time, I can basically watch my battery meter dropping like a lead balloon.
On days when we aren't texting each other, the battery is completely normal (a battery life which, in general terms, I've been very happy with since upgrading to the S5).

I can be on YouTube, Twitter, taking photos, watching videos, etc and I get typical and very reasonable battery life while doing multiple "heavy lifting" tasks on the phone. Wifi and/or cellular have no noticable effect. The phone has a great battery life outside of the group texting.
When my friends and I start engaging the group text thread, the battery just plummets.

My battery meter says Messaging accounts for 1% of the battery drain since the last time the phone was unplugged. The % meter never accounts for an unreasonable amount allocated to Messaging. But it's undeniable that it happens specifically when group texting.

Frustrating.
