Battery drain

Ever since I got my epic a month ago it has been in this cycle, run fine for a day and good battery life, day 2 startss running sluggish and horrible battery life(2-3hrs only of little to no use) and then totally freezes up. Do battery pull and start the cycle over. So I have been trying to narrow down the culprit and I discovered tonight that I have an "android.iqd" constantly running at anywhere between 75-100% of my cpu. So when I kill it, it immediately returns. What is it and how do I fix this? Thanks for any thoughts and/or ideas.

I know that service always runs on my phone, but don't know what it actually does (IQ Agent Service). My battery issues resolved without stopping all the running services (like DRM, Media Hub, etc) when I found out how to disable the 3G data connection when I have a weak signal, like at work.

signal is not an issue for me so i don't feel that is my issue but who knows right!? all i know is that is really annoying and frustrating as having to keep a charger with me at all times is not what i am expecting from any phone. if it wasn't for this issue the phone is what i always thought a smartphone should be like, especially coming from the moment where that one was so severely handcuffed!

How DO, you disable the 3g data connection when there's a poor signal. I have the same issue, as I work in a shielded building.

I think I read there is an app or 2 that will do that. Juice defender maybe?

To disable 3G you can use a widget or app - I use Quick Settings (free from the market), or if you get WiFi in your building just turn that on and your 3G connection will automatically turn off

Or you can use Juice Defender (Always disable 3G data + 3G data whenever screen is on) OR you can buy Power Control Plus ($1.99) and add a button called "Cellular Data connection." This turns 3G on or off (note the button actually called "2G/3G" does not work on the Epic).

your best bet is to get the power control widget and turn 3g on and off with a click as you need it. keep in mind you can still get calls and text with the 3g disabled with this widget.

also juice defender wont disable 3g when theres poor signal. but with juice defender you can setup a time that it will disable your data, its called "night" so it will disable when you sleep, but if you work a regular job with a defined schedule this should be able to suffice.

there are also apps that can disable srvices by location and gestures. like tasker can open up pandora when you put in your headphones, theres a million things you can setup with it once you learn it, theres a couple threads with directions.

locale might work for this too. it emables and disables stuff according to your location

I appreciate the replies everyone! I am still wondering what that "andoid.iqd" thing is. I also believe its named iq service agent. Does anyone know what this is?

Idk exactly what its for but you got the name right.

I don't think there's really a point in killing it cuz it'll keep restarting. If you root and flash a rom lately all the devs have been taking it out.

K thanks. I have simple root but been trying to get back to all stock so I can bring it to sprint for them to check out. I don't have recovery on my phone just root access but everything I have found you need Odin to flash back. Any ideas? Or if I wait for 2.2 will it go back to stock? Thanks again:-)

Alright?I seem to have worse battery life since I rooted. I?m rooted with Baked Snack 1.6 with the Ultimate Kernel. The Kernel works fine, but the battery life seems much worse compared to before, which should be the opposite. I am not sure what is causing it. The DRM is shut off. I did the Airplane Mode toggle. WiFi ?sleep? is set to ?never?. Even got rid of many of the extraneous programs in running services. So, I checked out Spare Parts and my phone isn?t sleeping properly. The ?running? is at 39% (or 18 minutes) and I haven?t used my phone at all since it?s been unplugged 49 minutes ago. Screen has been on 10.1% of the time and phone on for 6.9%. What is causing the ?running? percentage to be so high? I don?t think I have anything on? I don?t have WiFi on right now. Whatever is ?running?, it?s probably affecting my battery life. Anything else I need to do?

Also, I turned off ?SetCPU? from running services. Will that affect my settings or anything? I don?t have the widget any homescreen.

Thanks!

ive seen multiple posts some what related to this. and most of the time it is a buggy app that is causing it. did you restore your phone when you flashed baked?
id try wiping data and cache again. then restore your apps+data only from titanium backup.
or if you want you can try uninstalling your apps one by one til you find out which one it is. but sometimes restoring all your settings using titanium causes problems

and to rumpsey - sorry if thats not the username - there should be a root uninstaller. when i get home ill send you the link i have it saved on my home computers bookmarks.
or try that z4root app from the market, i heard it works and has an uninstall option

Although it takes longer, the very best way to flash a ROM is to first wipe, then restore all apps/settings by hand. No nandroid backup restore, no titanium backup restore, etc. This is what I do every time I flash a ROM and I've never experienced a problem/bug that every single other user wasn't also experiencing.

Did the swipe and installed everything again and it seems to be better now, but we'll see.

Also curious if SetCPU drains the battery in any way. It's sometimes on my running app list. Is it safe to leave on?

If you're going to tweak your processor speed then leave it on. If not then you can uninstall it/disable it.

Ya I finally got unrooted, find a thread about odin 3 that was awesome and tried it and had zero problems doing it. In fact had I known it was that easy to use, its very much like blackberry master control when I had blackberries, I would have done the whole ball of wax when I did simple root! Thanks! And I will look up the z4root app just to see what its about.

Wiped data and used Titanium to restore. I thought it made a difference at first, but it?s still ?not sleeping? a lot. Last time I checked, it?s ?not sleeping? maybe 83% of the time even though the screen is on 46%. Just curious, but if I use the paid version of Titanium, will it make any difference? And what about using Nandroid? If not, I guess I?ll have to do this manually.

When you restored what did you choose to restore?

apps+data
apps and all system data? which one?

ill help you get to the bottom of this. i dont have my phone on me but when i do ill help you figure out which app iis doing it.
