My phone today has been drastically draining the battery today. Here is a SS of the what is running and we know about the one bug but what is going on? My battery by this time of day is usually at 70-80% and after 2 hours (after I plugged it in again) it's already down to 60%.

Any one have any ideas?

Go to the task manager and see if any app shows high CPU usage. Pulse does that once in a while using 30-50% CPU time.

It sometimes can be a app. On my galaxy s2 this happened once. After checking what apps did what right after the battery flew down pulse bugged and drained 25% in 15 minutes.. I went to task manager and it was sitting at like 90% cpu constant.

After closing it and reopening it never did it again so I have no idea why it did that but it only happened once. My s3 hasn't had this happen.. Yet lol :x

After reading revues of the s3 saying things like 20 hrs talk time and 11 hrs mp3 time im amazed as i mess with mine and the charge can be gone in an hour or so. Im not daft im an engineer so i understand the battery drain thing with the larger quad core cpu and 4.8" screen, but for respected magazines to put crazy statments like 20 hr battery life!! its rubbish, my mum uses her landline like a life line! but if i gave her my S3 it wouldnt last half a day never mind 20hrs talk time.

Please can someone give me some advise on maintaining battery life!

I have enabled power save and downloaded a power saving app but still charging FOUR times a day !!!!!!

I have had my S3 on for LOOOOOng periods of time. It all has to do with controlling the radios you are using. My suggestion? Delete the battery "saving" app...you don't need it and if its always "saving" its always running...so its probably draining more battery then it saves.. Also and this is the important part...shut off ALL radios you are not using when you are not using them. Its easy enough, just pull the notification window down and make sure NOTHING is highlighted other then "screen rotation" and "power saving" (unless you are using it). When i need to check my email, I turn on WIFI OR 3G then hit the sync toggle. once my email is updated i shut off the data and sync. When I make a call, I turn on bluetooth, when i'm done I shut it. My screen stays around 30% unless I go outside and use it, then i'll crank it up to 100, do what i need to do and shut it off.

here are some screen shots

those are pretty strong numbers! I keep lte turned off on my thunderbolt, maybe I should flick data on and off etc...

If I have to keep turning all radios on and off when I need them them I can't use the phone. I don't want to micro manage the system. It should be smart at some things. I refuse to sit there and turn my 3G on them sync mail and turn it off. Just dumb that I would need to take those steps to make it through the day. I'm sure of anyone micro managed their phone they could get 2 days. But for normal users that certainly isn't a viable solution.

You might have an app running in the background that causing this to happen. This was happening to me as well. I downloaded this app and it helped me see what the problem app was. Check it out.

Well, if you just keep it powered off all the time and only turn it on when you want to check your email or make a phone call, you can probably go for a week or longer. But really, whats the point then? Anyone who has had a blackberry knows you can go 2-3 days, and that is just great, but aside from being anal, as long as you can get thru what is a normal day for you, and charge every night fully, then why not just use the phone and leave everything on auto pilot. Thus far I havent even come close to running my battery dead. Of course this assumes you have access to power every night, you actually go to sleep and pay your power bill every month. If you're out doing a through hike on the AT, then micro managing power consumption could come in handy.

exactly...my other post was a very extreme conservation of battery life....i was able to go well over a day and a half. Most of the time i dont need to be away from power for more then a few hours, but i wanted to know that i could do more if i needed to. The point of my post was to show different ways to conserve battery. its up to the individual user to decide how and when to conserve power. on a normal day, i can leave mobile data and sync on all day without needing to plug in for 10+ hours. The phone more then gets me through the day with normal usage.

the main thing is to know what type of user you are..and I think most people dont. Many users think they use their phone more often they actually do The truth is that when they leave radios on that they are not using, they are the first ones to say "this phone sucks" when in reality,.... it's user error..

..for example...

I find that if I'm in the car using GPS, i have no use for WIFI so I shut it to conserve power. Many will argue that they dont want to have to micromanage their phone, but I cant see how someone who is on their phone "all the time" doesn't have time to pull down the notification bar and simply click the WIFI toggle off. If you can leave WIFI on all day and not need to charge then great, but those who complain about battery life and aren't willing to change their behavior to fix it will have no choice but to get another phone or deal with dead batteries. a phone cant just "be better" when a person isnt willing to learn how to use it.

My GF had an issue similar to this. She would say something like " I wish this phone would last as long as my simple old flip phone would. It sucks that this phone is suppose to be so great and cant make it through the day."

What she failed to see was that her smart phone actually had the ability to make it through the day if she set it up to ONLY do what her old flip phone did. If she only used talk and text, then her smart phone would last 3+ days and could actually blow her flip phone out of the water with battery life....but no one wants to do that... She wasn't willing to give up twitter, and instagram, and gps navigation, and google+, and emails, etc etc etc.. Some people never realize that with more functionality, comes more function, comes more use, and consumes more battery. Smart phones cant be expected to do 10 times the work of dumb phones and use the same amount of battery.

with a great phone like the S3 you get to decide what is most important and manage accordingly

your other option is to buy a phone that decides for you

anyone who thinks another phone out there will be better needs to really compare and see that the other phone is capable of doing all that this one does....most likely its not...and if it isn't ...then look into what you would be missing and disable it from this phone to see if battery life improves. If its too much for you to think about, then maybe buying a phone with less choices is a better option for you.

....PS...this wasnt all directed towards scorpiodsu...just happened to quote him ...nothing personal :-!
