The phone was at 100% when I left it on the tablet and when I came back 4 hours later at 81%... What is android system to being using so much battery with my phone sitting with screen off and not in use...
Any ideas what I can do?

I have been noting extra battery drain on mine as well. What are ramification of deleting cache? Anything?
Cache is just the files that apps and system store and put on 'reserve' for faster recollection.

Not sure how it works on Android, but that's how it is everywhere else.

Before I opened this website, I was just thinking the opposite with my M 10 on Sprint. My phone has been sitting for almost 11 hours since I took it off the charger. Picked it up and checked email and Facebook twice, and it's still at 93%. Seems better since the most recent update.......

Probably an app update that didnt go well.
Google Photos had one on 10/12 that made a couple of my phones sluggish and have way more battery drain.
App updated a week later and all was better.
my TMO HTC 10 is running well. no battery complaints from me.

I prefer to update my apps manually. OP , you might want to change from auto update to manual, just a suggestion. At least that way you know and can control it, so no surprises. No battery issues here either

Something was up for sure. a few days ago, my battery was dropping big time with no use. All of the sudden, it was working better yesterday. 12 apps updated, so it could have been anything.

I just reset my phone and it fixed what ever the problem was with the battery drain..
