Battery indicator

Is there any way to turn off the battery indicator in the notification bar on an HTC Rezound? I downloaded a new widget that also displays a battery indicator in the notification bar and I like it better because it actually shows me a number. I don't really need two indicators so is there a way to turn off the native one?
