Battery is Suddenly Draining Suuper Fast - Screen using up to 60% of battery at 30%?

I have had my LG G3 for almost 2 years. Suddenly almost over night my battery is just being sucked super quick. Battery app on phone says it's screen using sometimes up to 60% and the rest is used up by apps. But the android OS is a close second at 16%. Thing is my screen brightness is set to 30% and has always been 30% since day one. And it never used 60% ever. Most was like 35%. I have tried uninstalling any apps that I installed within the last month or so. Nothing improved at all. But there have been a lot of apps that updated several times over the month. So I'm wondering if it's one of those apps?

I just did a factory reset thinking that should solve the problem. NOPE. Even booted phone in safe mode BEFORE factory reset and battery was still draining fast. I realize that the battery is almost 2 years old. But usually batteries don't take a dump overnight usually it's gradual. I don't really want to get a new battery when in a month or a little over that, I plan on upgrading. But would like to find a temporary fix so that in an emergency I can can make needed calls without worry that the battery won't last. Because as you can see the battery graph is not gradual down grade it's a steep just downward crash.

This is what it says is using up my battery:

I'm thinking that something is draining my battery but not sure what as it's not listed. Or could it be the phone not the battery. I have tried the trick of dialing *#*#4636#*#* to get battery diagnostics. It says my battery is still good. Wouldn't it show there that the battery is bad? Out of health it says my battery is 91 out of 100. 100 being probably excellent.

So what could be draining my battery? Anyways to tell without rooting?
I am on Verizon Wireless

I have done more testing. When it is in idle mode and screen is off the battery hardly goes down. But the longer I use it the battery gets drained. Usage of screen has gone up as high as 80%. So I'm really starting to think it is the phone. Something is going on it. :/ . I don't really use my phone as much now that I have a tablet. So hopefully I can ride it out for a month or two until I upgrade the phone.

This started to happen to be in the past two weeks (i'm also using verizon) - battery stays over night sometimes but randomly i will wake up to less than 5% remaining when i started with over 50% before leaving it overnight. I have done possibly everything short of doing a factory reset (clearing cache, turning off sync, getting rid of apps, using hibernation apps, turning off location, bluetooth, etc., and taking away permissions/wake from apps, etc) and although it seemed to have worked in the beginning, the problem "randomly" reappears. Mine also tells me that the main use is the screen and the os, but i think it's not capturing what's truly eating up the battery for some reason - i think this battery stat only reflects when the phone is in use (although it should reflect all) which explains why it says it's the screen, even though my battery drains overnight when the screen is off.

What android version are you on? I am on 6.0.1 and my phone is also about a couple of years old.

You can try what i did at the onset of this problem and see if that solves it for you - i've installed an app called "Greenify" which will put user apps in to hibernation. It doesn't do much with system apps though, which i think is part of the culprit.

My phone is rooted and just today i started to only allow 1 background process through the developer options (along with using Greenify) - and thus far it seems to be holding the battery quite well (it's been 5 hours since full charge and battery is at 97% with little use); again, so i think there's something in the background and/or systems app that is draining the battery. Hope that helps.

I've also read that auto brightness as well as adaptive brightness should be turned off as it uses more battery than it saves.

Oh and also, i noticed that your battery use for Media is high. Sometimes android will scan media on your storage and get stuck on a file and it will drain the battery - look for apps that stop this scan and/or fix the problematic file that it gets stuck on.

I had overnight battery drain twice recently, showing as Android OS. GSam Battery Monitor revealed vigorous CPU activity on both occasions at about 6.45am. I eventually tracked it down to McAfee, a built-in app, and one of the packages included under Android OS. Somehow McAfee was set to do a backup and full scan at about that time, though not set to do so by me so far as I can possibly recall. Turning those off fixed the drain.
This won't help those with high Screen battery drain, but may be helpful to those with high Android OS drain.

Well, i thought i had made some progress with the changes i've made but the problem continues. Not as bad as before but something is draining my battery after midnight, when i put it down to go to sleep - and this is random; sometimes it happens and other times it does not. It's very weird and i am out of ideas. I will install and use GSam once again (ive done this once before but didn't get any clues from it) and see what happens.

So the latest thing i've researched and will try (while my battery charges up and i can get a day or two worth of data from GSam) is battery calibration. Seems that the batterystats.bin file located in your /system storage needs to be formatted and reset after installing a new ROM (which, is what i did about three weeks ago). Makes some sense... not sure how effective it will be. Will keep posted.

I called Verizon and they said the screen issue has been a known issue with the LG's. They send me a replacement not another G3 as they didn't have any, but a Galaxy S5 and that thing has drained 3x more than the G3. While transfering contacts and stuff I noticed the battery drain was not happening nearly as bad. The one thing different is there was no sim card in the phone. I took my old sim card in the G3 and transferred it to the S5. And that thing was eating a LOT of battery. I've used it to transfer contacts and download a few apps. But it's down to 44% battery left and the LG with the same use and being on for two days is at 77%. So I'm thinking the issue was a bad sim card.

Prior to the battery drain I was on vacation and using my phone as a wifi hotspot for my tablet, and I had it plugged in as it was suggested. The phone got super hot after a while so I stopped. I'm thinking that may have damaged the sim card. I called Verizon and switched to the sim card I was given with the S5. I have to wait for a full charge to see if the new sim card has fixed my issue. Either way if it doesn't fix the issue the S5 goes back because even with a draining battery on the G3 it's still a LOT better than the S5 when it comes to battery life at least. Then in october I will upgrade (probably to the V20) and not have the issue.

Well, i did this after fully charging my battery and so far so good. 28 hours have passed and i'm only at 51% battery level, which is the best stat ive had thus far. Waiting for it to completely drain as per instructions before charging again. Will keep monitoring and see if that overnight drain happens in the next week or so.
