Hi.

I am having the worst time with the battery on the EVO. I have had my phone for about 5 months, and the battery wasn't great, but at least it lasted for a while.

However recently my battery dies by noon.

I don't know what the issue is, I uninstalled "Kik" and other programs that might drain the battery. But like last night I went to sleep at around 1:00 a.m., and my battery had 85% on it, and I just wanted to see how much would be drained by the morning. I woke up about 7:00 a.m., and the battery was at like 50%. It went down 35% even though the screen was off, and I did not even touch the phone all night. I turned off "wifi" and "bluetooth" do there was nothing really draining it.

I don't know what I have to do or what is killing the battery.

The best solution to the problem right now is download an app called "Spare Parts" so that we can see what app is not letting the phone sleep. Basically once you install that go into battery history within the app. Then your going to hit the top tab and bring up "Partial Wake Usage". That right there should tell us what is not sleeping.

Searching for 4g maybe?

I don't have 4G on. That is what is so confusing...I have everything off. I don't have bluetooth, wifi, 4g, enabled at all.

The only thing that I have is location that is turned on.

I don't know what app it is, but something is quickly draining the phone. I took out Kik, and other push notification programs.

I know the Evo is sprint but I am guessing it has the same basic set up with it being an HTC device. Click on settings then click on About phone then on battery. you will see the battery level then click on battery use and it will show you what is being used on it.The Android system uses more juice than anything mine is at 36% and cell standby is at 25% , etc.

Are you going to listen to my advice? Cause that will find the problem. Looks like you just skimmed right over it.

This will not help, that will not give a detailed info of every app. I will repost my advice.. This will find what is going on.

If you have 3g on, it will drain if its hunting for a signal. I leave my wifi on and connected to my home router and it doesnt drain at all unless im using it.
Id go through your applications and see whats running.

So I downloaded spare parts and went into battery history and then partial wake usage. Android Agenda Widget from the market is in there (I use it on a homescreen)...is this app a known battery eater?

You look for apps where that blue bar is high. If those are high, either change refresh frequencies or delete the app because it may be causing the phone not to sleep. It is also good to email the devs about it with what phone and Android version you have.

Looks like a winner, but since this is such a popular topic for newbies, maybe a comprehensive answer for people other than the OP.... (Though splmonster is 100% correct. I'm just hoping to complement his answer)

Battery dying overnight is usually because something is keeping your phone 'awake', that is, it's actively using battery draining component (cpu/connectivity/memory/moonbeams) when it should be just sitting there patiently waiting for you to check your email at the crack of dawn. Poorly written programs can keep the phone awake, even if you aren't actively using them. It's not limited to small time, obscure programs, so don't think it can't be something 'everybody uses'. (e.g. official facebook application a few versions back)

Easiest way to see IF that may be your problem is to check your up time vs. awake time (Home > Menu > Settings > About Phone > Battery). With any luck, your Up time is MANY more hours than your awake time (unless you have been using it like crazy). If they are equal or very close, that's a bad thing.

A program like 'Spare Parts' will let you get even more detailed, seeing WHAT programs are keeping your phone awake, or even 'partial awake' (which is some mystical place in between that still uses battery, but doesn't count towards your full 'awake' time). If you have a program(s) that are using a lot of 'partial wake' time, then it will contribute to your battery loss, again, even if you think the phone is not being used (e.g. when you are sleeping). The key to it is identifying what should be on that list and what shouldn't. Things like email, rss reader, etc. that regularly poll, should have a few minutes of clock time, but really, all these items should be relatively low. If something is high (large blue bar), then that's the first place to start. Try uninstalling it or freezing it (if you use titanium pro, gotta love it) for a night or so. Do one or two apps a day, that will help you narrow it down, allowing re-installation of 'good' applications.

Bonus: I personally do market updates on programs in stages over a few days, so I don't have 20 apps update all at once, which makes it harder to identify if one caused a new problem.

Hope that helped... Also, if anybody wants to provide a more technical explanation of 'partial awake' vs. 'awake', I'd love it. Last I tried to look, more people asking the question than giving answers via Google, including over at XDA.

You should enable Wifi over night even when not using it. Wifi using at least 40% less battery power than 3G or 4G. With Optimum settings I can make my EVO last for over 36 hours

Sometimes we overlook the obvious... The Op might have a defective battery. A defective battery doesn't necessarily mean the battery won't charge, it can also mean the battery won't hold its charge either.

First thing to always do before anything else is to check the health of your battery. I do so by installing the stock battery icon on the home-screen. You can find it in widgets - get HTC more widgets.

Most of those applications that shows you what's running in the back ground tends to use up more of your battery life themselves.Clear storage and start over.. this time test the phone for a couple days to see its performance.

Good luck.

A previous thread on battery drains indicated that Latitude could be a culprit. Go to settings-applications-running apps. See if Latitude is running.
