Battery Issues, please help!

Charging everyday is perfectly normal.

If its heating up when idle, that means some background process or application is using the CPU, thus battery drain. Check your batt stats for the high percentage users. Pull the battery overnight. Follow basic power saving techniques posted all over this site. Check to see if your cell signal isn't very weak. Try another new battery, they're cheap to buy now. I pulled my battery overnight recently, probably just coincidence but i'm getting much better batt life now. Getting 24hrs uptime and 4.5hrs screen time with 15% charge left regularly now.

You're incorrect. It's NOT normal to have to charge the phone every day when it sits on a table, unused. I was getting more than 2 days out of the battery under such use, and that was making a couple phone calls, etc. Something changed in the phone. What I recently realized is that, on the pull down menu, there's a footer at the very bottom which shows the service provider, in my case T-Mobile. Lately, instead of saying T-Mobile, it was stuck on "Searching". I am convinced that my phone was doing something weird, trying to find a better connection or something. Now it's back to saying T-Mobile, and the battery drain has stopped and it is no longer warm.

So I factory reset my S5 but the battery is still subpar.

When you pull down the notification bar and it says "searching" or on the top of the phone it has an icon, "O" with a slash in the middle, that means you don't have reception or no service. If you got your mobile data turned on during that time, LTE is stressing out to get signal, hence the drain..

Here's the thing- mobile data is turned OFF. All of this talk of turn this off, turn that off, disable bloatware, this, that, the other thing is meaningless. This problem has nothing to do with that. All of that stuff has been running since I bought the phone, I never had any battery problems, and all of a sudden within the last two weeks, the phone went into a state of massive battery drain. This phone is still in its factory state. I have installed no apps, nothing. I have a Samsung S3 as well, which has a weaker battery since it's been used 1 1/2 years longer than this new phone, and it will sit, with WIFI on, and everything else on too, GPS, etc., and it lasts close to 4 days, just like this S5 used to. Now, I cannot even go to bed with less than 60% charge or it will be dead in 8 hours time. "Android System" is the culprit, and I have no idea why. I found countless other posts on other sites about this exact same issue, and nobody has found the cause, or a solution. It is an operating system issue. Despicable and unacceptable for such an expensive unit.

Oh, and I should mention that this has nothing to do with the Samsung, because it's across all android based phones.

Follow the directions below and try clearing the cache . See if that helps . My Razr Maxx use to get weird once in a while and start draining the battery for no reason . Clearing out the cache usually fixed it . Good luck .

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time:
Volume Up key
Home key
Power key
When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
Press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.

Is there a root app that will significantly improve battery

YES it is, if you actually use the phone as it was designed and by that i mean screen time of more than 3 hours per day. Whats the point of having a phone like this if its just going to sit idle all day long? :s

Your issue as you have already found seems to be poor cell reception, so the radio is constantly searching which eats into the battery. And that is not linked to the data function being on or off, theres not alot you can do about poor cell reception killing the battery unless you put it into airplane mode to stop it searching.

thats a good time. Mine is brand new and i get about 13 hours being that screen ins around 20%.

my phone dropped 50% over ~10 hours of time, got 2 hours 40 minutes screentime on a 60% brightness level2014-08-26 22.39.14.jpg2014-08-26 22.39.36.jpg

On the Galaxy S5, there is a Power Save mode that turns off all background apps including Viber.

How can I enable Viber, while maintaining the Power Save function???

Yup. It's because of Android System is high. No one knows why.

Because Google is tracking you and report massive data back to its server. ..... better keep data and sync off when not in use. ..... save battery too.

@T-Mobile GN3
