Battery life is horrid

I thought my battery life was bad before, now it is even worse. The Virgin Mobile website says the OV has a standby of 7 hours and 3 1/2 hours talk time. I have two OVs, one 1st gen and one is 2nd gen. When I bought the 1st gen (older) phone I put the battery from my newer 2nd gen phone in it, expecting a newer battery to be perform better overall.

I switched from the BACKside ROM to Harmonia 1.8 because I was getting less than 4 hours standby with BACKside. Switching to Harmonia helped increase battery life for the first two months.

I have been on the road and using my OV alot. Now when I use it, I am on it from literally 10 in the morning, and at 10:45, half of my battery is gone. This is after a FULL night of charging.

I am running Harmonia 1.8 and really nothing else. I even switched from GO Launcher back to the 2.2 stock launcher to save power. My stats say that 64% of the battery is standby, 21% is idle, and only 11% is Android OS. So Im pretty sure nothing is draining the battery in Android, so why is it so bad?

anecdotal evidence: at my normal firehouse I have great coverage - when I get shipped to another station to cover another apparatus I am at1 bar and 1x coverage - my battery is dead in only a few hours

Is there any chance your coverage is low where you are travelling? these devices ramp up the power to try and boost signal when needed and it will KILL battery life when you are in a low service area - espcially when moving around.

Not sure if this fits your situation but could be a contributing cause.

Wow I never even thought about that, but that may be exactly what my problem is, because I am out of coverage areas alot and frequently see one bar/1x signal.

So maybe my battery is not bad after all, its just because I am in low coverage,and the signal boost? That would be great to know

Low coverage, but also, social networking apps, and news widgets will kill your battery, these are amplified in a low signal area as now not only is the phone searching, but the app is making it search even more.

You can also get larger capacity batteries, some will even fit inside (though they have a smaller increase).

You can try using BetterBatteryStats to see if anything is keeping your phone awake when the screen is off (aka partial wake lock).
Also, if there are signal problems you can verify by looking at the Time Without Signal (found under Menu > Settings > About phone > Battery Use > Cell standby) pic
One solution would be to go into airplane mode when you're in areas with bad coverage. I've messed with automating the process with an app called Tasker where if signal drops too low or disconnects it'd go in airplane mode & turn signal back on briefly if signal is restored. I haven't played with this enough but those are some suggestions.

It is possible that you need to calibrate your battery since you switched it from another phone. This thread might help.

There is some debate as to whether wiping battery stats helps or not. I think you should try it. If anything, you'll eliminate it as a variable.

I too am running backside and my battery life was great then suddenly got horrible the last few days even running warmer than normal. I'm suspecting some type of spyware or even maybe a vulnerability with swype (just a theory still doing lots and lots of digging) I formatted completely in recovery and did a clean install of backside and I could tell the difference right away the phone charged twice as fast and is even cooler in my hand during use.

4.5 talk time out of backside might be reasonable .

STOCK numbers. Talk time on 2nd gen is rated at 2.5hrs...and the 1st gen was rated at 6hrs. talk time ...
