Battery Life on 8.1

Hi guys. So I got the 8.1 update last night and I like some of the changes. But I noticed today that my battery life was horrible. I had my phone e plugged in, in my car since I was using GPS. So it was 100% at around 3pm and at 10:20pm I was at 19% before plugging my phone in and I didn't do much at all with my phone today. A little bit of web browsing but that's it really. I've had much more intensive days with much better battery life. Did they change something with 8.1 that I have to tweak settings to save on battery life?

Did you factory reset after the update? Usually battery life is bad for a few days after an update? That being said mine has been pretty bad even after a few days on the OG Pixel XL.

I didn't factory reset. I am also on the original pixel XL so I guess I will see how it is after a few days.

One of the things I love the most about this phone is the battery. Fingers crossed the update won't screw it up

Wifi doesn't allow the phone to go into deep sleep so I noticed that is killing my battery, especially overnight not plugged it. Oreo took away turn wifi off during sleep which could have addressed this issue. Now I find my battery like better when I am data instead of wifi which shouldn't be the case.

The wifi settings you refer to are still there under wifi, wifi preferences, advanced. You can keep wifi on all the time, only when plugged in, and never.

Also, give the update a couple of days to settle in. It sounds weird, but every OS update I've gotten takes a couple of days for battery life to stabilize. Then it's (usually) back to the way it was or better.

I changed the GPS from high accuracy to battery saver, and my battery life has improved tremendously. I've heard the arguments pro and con, but in my case it made a world of difference.

My battery just keeps draining today. It keeps dropping percentage every few minutes and I haven't done much on it today. I just keep watching it drop and I'm not even using any apps on it. Battery Saver isn't even helping.

If you have developer options enabled, go into background check and toggle everything off. Made a huge difference for me so far

What exactly does background check do? If I toggle it off will it cause any issues?

It keeps everything from not running in the background

Phone is snappier for me with increased battery life. Not sure if anyone is doing this but I am and it's working for me without any issues

Turning off "High accuracy" help my battery life drastically.. definitely do that! I'm running 8.1 on my OG Pixel with no issues other than the battery..

I've notice when I turn off high accuracy that Google maps is almost unusable for navigation purposes

It is, but I rarely use maps, so I just turn high accuracy on when I need it, then turn it off after I'm done *

If you use maps all the time then I guess you gotta leave it on

Anybody know if setting "background processes" to "none" has the same effect?

Not exactly sure as my settings don't seem to work for that. Every time I set it on 3 or 4 processes it always changes back to standard. At least in my case it does. Seems to be a bug with that issue
