Battery life while charging

Hi everyone,

I am generally happy with my S5 battery life. It easily last over a day.

However I have one problem when using Google navigation or Sygic navigation. The problem is even when plugged into a 2.1A car charger the battery still drains while using either of these navigation apps. If no navigation app is running then the batter will charge.

I have tried this in two different cars with two different chargers. Sygic has a power save option, but that makes no difference. I would like to arrive at my destination with a charged battery, but at the moment it will drain (slowly) while traveling.

Any advice?
Thanks
Alan

Welcome to Android Central! First, certain apps or processes can be pretty battery intensive, so just because it's plugged in doesn't mean the charging current can match the rate of battery consumption.

Second, your car charger's 2.1 A rating is its max current--it doesn't mean that the phone is drawing that much current. If there's a compatibility issue, or if the cable is problematic, then the phone might think it's plugged into a computer USB port, and only draw as much current as a USB port usually provides (which isn't much). Try installing Galaxy Charging Current Lite to measure your phone's current while charging in the car.

Thanks very much for your reply it was a great help.
I installed Galaxy Charging Current and tried all of my cables using the same USB mains charger. The cable I was using in the car was showing a much lower current than most of my other cables. I'll use a different cable in the car next time and see if that solves the issue.

For info:
The best cable was an old Nokia cable.
The worst was a Samsung branded cable and a 99p ebay one.
