Seriously, has anyone heard what type of battery is in the TB? Im not interested in buying an extended battery to add thickness to the phone.

I read it will be a 1400 which is slightly smaller than the EVO's - but I wold bet it will be the same (same size they use in many of their phones). I also would bet the TB's battery life will be very similar to the EVO's = not too good!

HTC doesn't have the best track record with battery life -- at least not on their Android devices. 1400 is disappointing, but there's also only so much software optimization that can be done. Battery technology undoubtedly needs to get better.

On thing to keep in mind that may offer a little hope is that this phone uses a second gen chip from the Snapdragon series, whereas the Inc and the EVO use the first gen Qualcomm.

The second gen chip is more power and battery efficient, and press releases put out by Qualcomm and Verizon earlier in the week stated that they worked directly with each other to improve battery life usage by the newer chip

Still wish we could have gotten the Atrix's 1930 mAh battery tho :S

How big and ugly is the extended battery going to make it. If it looks like the DInc extd battery then we have issues. Fortunately the back of the device is so oddly shaped. Still I would like to know its coming soon, as in 30 days or less.

I've read 1800 mAh from a few places, which would make it a little better than the Evo's... though that isn't saying much considering just how terrible battery life is in the Evo.

1800 mAh would be large improvement from the Inc, actually. The battery life with a 1300 mAh battery was painful at times. 3 hours of straight 3G browsing per charge.

Official HTC site for this phone states the standard battery will be 1400 mAh. See here:

HTC ThunderBolt?„? at Verizon

Third-party vendors have already stated that they will be selling extended batteries, but they will be bundled with a "bulged" case that sticks out further on the back, as usual

The myTouch 4G has a 1400mAh battery and I can get 24 hours on a charge. I wonder if LTE will be a battery killer.

From all accounts that I've seen, LTE sucks battery life like no tomorrow. I don't see that changing much between now and these phones releases. Unfortunately it's something I think that's going to get better over time. WiMax sucks battery life as well.

It's also a matter of battery technology...it needs to get better, plain and simple. We can't be stuck on the current 1500 mAh form factor forever. They have to start finding ways to fit higher capacity batteries in the same size batteries that we have now. There's only so much software optimization that you can do on battery performance.

We'll see. Luckily T-Mobile's "4G" network doesn't use any additional battery. :p

Agreed, HTC must still be smoking california tobacco by putting a 1400Mah battery in a higher powered device! !! DUH! !

Well i have a 175 battery for my incredible. I must admit, i really love my incredible. Now that i think about it, i don't think i will get an x. I love sense too much. I'll probably just hold out for the TB, as much as i don't want to wait. The only way i get the bionic is if the reviews are just ridiculously positive about it.

LTE won't be turned on on either the Bionic or the ThunderBolt until it hits my market so I can easily save on battery life that way. My hope is Verizon doesn't drag out the rollouts in Upstate NY forever.

Here's the reality - Phones, like any other product, are a function of economics.

The Manufacturer needs to keep costs as low as possible so all of them are supplying the smallest battery they can get away with to save money.

The market is also demanding “paper-thin” devices, which mandate underpowered batteries.

Therefore, until the battery industry makes major advances or the market decides that a 2500/3500 battery in a phone is not a deal killer, aftermarket batteries will be a reality for those who need the life.

It’s sad, but it’s also an unfortunate reality. Let’s face it, if the DOLT came with a 2500/3500 battery, everyone would be wailing that it’s a brick and would never buy it because it’s “huge.”

The newer Snapdragon in the Thunderbolt is more power-efficient than the Evo or Inc's chip. You'll get better battery life than before when you're not running on LTE.

I actually tried the phone for a long time at CES yesterday and today. I disconnected the charging cable and looked at the charge when I started using LTE on the show floor. The charge dropped by more than 20% in what was probably 20 minutes of use. I'd say that if you use LTE, you better have a charger nearby or a spare battery or 3.

It is a crying shame to release such a good phone that you won't even be able to make it through the day on a single battery charge! From what I am reading if you have an LTE signal, that will suck the battery even more! Being a Dinc user since day 1, my only complaint has been batter life. BIG downer that the TB won't have any better battery life and most likely will have LESS battery life than the Dinc. In my mind, that makes this phone useless! My eye is on the Moto Bionic right now for my first LTE phone.
