Battery mysteriously drained after leaving phone turned off overnight

I have a Samsung Stratosphere with stock battery and I typically power it off each night while I'm asleep. I leave it plugged in for a couple hours each evening, so it's at or near 100% when I turn it off. But then, sometimes in the morning when I turn it back on, the battery will mysteriously be down to around 15-20%. Then it takes several hours charging to get back up to 100%. Again, the phone is fully powered down overnight. This bizarre issue has happened to me several times in the last couple of months. Has anyone else experienced this, or do you have an idea what to try to figure out what's going on?

Are you stock? The bootloader controls this functionality when the phone is "off", but remember that the phone is never really off unless you actually pull the battery (this is evident as ADB can still talk to some phones when they are "off"), it is more like in a super, deep sleep mode... the bootloader still has some control over what is going on. The other possibility is some debris or moisture in the battery contacts somewhere is draining the battery. Why turn it off though, the advantages of that are slim. If you just don't want to use the phone or be notified of anything you could put it in Airplane Mode.
