Android Central Question

Hi!

5 days ago, I woke up with my Galaxy S6 charged at 58% even if it's been plugged all night. I thought it was caused by a bad connection with the charger (e.g. dust in the port) but later it would only reach 60% when charging. I got the same result in safe mode or with the phone turned off.

Each next days, the maximum charging % lowered, and I am now limited to 30%. Also, after a long time charging (after reaching 30%), it just stops charging and starts draining.

I read some articles suggesting to clear the system cache partition, but I can't do it since my volume up button is not working. I tried to use ReiBoot to clear it via USB, but it said my device is not supported.

I started shopping around for a replacement battery, and I found out it was possible to change the charging port (thanks to the frequently bought together section lol).

So now my options are:
1 - Replace the battery
2 - Replace the charging port
3 - Fix the volume up button (no idea if it's possible)

A while ago I followed a procedure to test the button in some Android system menu and it did not work in that system/diagnostic interface.

What do you think? I am hesitating between option 1 and option 1+2.

My phone is not rooted but I am open to do it. Unless it requires the use of the volume up button lol!

I hope I did not miss any important information.

Also, english is not my first language, so please excuse any english mistake I did, and try to stick to basic instructions/advices in your answers (avoid slang, etc.).

Thank you very much!
Daniel

Did you try a new USB cable? That's also a very common cause of this type of problem. If that doesn't do it, I'd first replace the battery, then move on to trying to replace the USB port (assuming you are able to do so or have a repair shop near by. I doubt this has anything to do with your cache partition, or software related in general, so I wouldn't suggest fixing the volume button only to try that step. If you are going to dig into the phone anyway to replace other parts, you may want to get that fixed in the process just so it works properly.
