Sorry about the stupid question but where is the battery percentage switch in the settings? I can't seem to find it anywhere, I remember it was in ICS...

There's never been battery % as part of a stock Android build (even in ICS ;) ).

If you want battery %, you need a custom ROM (if you want it in the battery itself). If you want to stay stock, there are several widgets and apps that'll show battery % on the homescreen or in the status bar.

I used to be all about having a battery % indicator in the bar, until I realized that its quite useless. You end up spending more time looking at the battery and worrying about it then just using the phone. Because smartphone battery life is very non-linear, a % hardly gives you any indication of remaining life.

It was in ICS?

I just installed an app that has a numbered meter in the notification bar all the time. But if I can do it stock I'd like to know as well. I didn't think it was in ICS.

Oh OK thank you guys... I had it on a stock AT&T Skyrocket ICS rom so I thought it was a built in feature of vanilla Android... its not a big deal for me though lol This is my first experience with a pure Android phone and I love it so far!

haha yes, I know the feeling lol admittedly the battery life on my GS2 Skyrocket on an ICS leak was very good for an LTE phone lol but the Nexus of course surpasses that by a large margin

Yeah I ended up getting Battery Status Bar (AD Free) for .99 works great and looks stock.

If you want a status bar app, I use a free app called Battery Circle and it is extremely accurate. It's lightweight too and doesn't drain your battery like many other battery apps. I like having it in the status bar because then I don't ever have to check it as long as I can see the status bar, I can just glance up. It's saved me several times when I didn't realize how low I was and was about to use some battery intensive app.

Battery widget is kinda cute, I use that. Just a little animated android with animations and % in its tummy.:)

thank you guys I'll check out the widgets you recommended. For now i just have a shortcut of the battery stats on the home screen :)
Edit: ended up installing "Notification Toggle" works perfectly and has the battery icon with percentage on it too. has lots of shortcuts like wifi, gps, tehering, etc, etc...
