Every so often I have the same problem. Atrocious battery life without any major changes to how I use the phone. I think it's a mix of bugs in both apps and the OS that get triggered.
If you reboot your phone before going to bed, does it continue to drain so fast?
Have you disabled any if the apps showing battery usage? Like Facebook.
In my case the iHeartRadio app kept waking up the phone all night. Plus it would restart itself even after I disabled it. Ended up uninstalling the app. It fixed that particular issue, but I still get occasional fast battery drains that a reboot seems to fix.
I should add that when everything is working well I get a good 4-5 hours SOT with medium brightness and GPS use by waze.
I am still on Android 5.1.1.
What steps, If any, have you taken to try to fix your "atrocious" battery life? You're by no means alone. Battery life on my 6 is ATROCIOUS. This device easily burns 8-10% per hour with light use! On November 2nd my iPhone 6S Plus arrives, so the nightmare of Google and the Nexus 6 are nearly over. BTW, where is my effin Marshmallow OTA update Google? This IS a Nexus device!!!
Facebook is one of the worst battery apps ever made. Uninstalling that will have a huge impact.I've been having a lot of battery issues lately. I'm on 5.1.1. I've started following a Google thread about a possible "Mobile Radio Active" bug that keeps apps running in the background when not being used, which I think may be happening on my phone. For example I may only use Facebook or Chrome for a few minutes, but they'll at the top of the battery stats list with a long mobile radio active time. People have said the issue is still in Android 6.0.
