Battery problems

I've always had terrible battery life but in the past week I only get it about 8-9 hours out of it (pretty light use.) My screen shot is after being unplugged for only one hour (though it reads "5 seconds) and it has dropped 14%.
Now my phone's battery icon flashes, almost continuously. Sometimes, while not plugged in it will have the "charging" battery icon showing and will make the sound as if I am plugging it in, then unplugging continuously.

Have you tried restarting your phone? It's odd that screen would show 50% usage with light use. Do you have any new app installs recently that may be keeping the screen on? You may want to try installing Wakelock detector from the Play store and letting it run to see if there are any apps running in the background. I hope that helps!
