got my nexus friday. battery has been terrible. pretty much in my pocket yesterday and in 4 hours dropped 30% without using it - no calls, one internet search, no txting, no live wall paper.

sat plugged in overnight - just looked at notifications and at 125am showed recharge completed- then at 601a showed status at 95%?? not sure how that could be with it plugged in and no one using it.

any advice would be appreciated!

What widgets or programs have you installed?

My evo used to do that, where id plug it in all night and it would drop 5 to 7% when unplugged.

must be something wrong with your nexus or you have a wake lock issue from an app. i heard the battery life is outstanding compared to the evo.

I haven't seen anything that jumps out and says outstanding, but I went from like 96% to 36% overnight. I looked up the bettery usage app and it was all becuase of aim :-p.

I must say the Palm Pre had better aim battery management.

you sure you guys don't have 4g enabled? ive never seen a phone drop that much overnight.

root it and maybe go flash a rom & kernel. netarchy has a custom kernel now for the 4g models. if the battery life is worse than my evo ill just sell the nexus s and stay where im at.

I can't say without a doubt it wasn't enabled. Been playing with the phone. I figured that if I wasn't connected to a 4g network then it didn't matter to have it on. Theres no 4g at my current location.

I'll give that a go on the coming days. I still think the stock andoird expierence combined with the blazing speed with this phone is good enough to warrent a purchase. These days smartphones suck on battery, so just get used to it and rememebr to charge. It was a dream with the palm pre. Just slap it on the touchstone when you wern't using it.

ugh this is not good. One of the reasons I couldn't live with the evo or epic was the battery life. They both sucked. If this is the same I am going to cry. I always had a problem with roaming and it absolutly killed the battery from switching to on and off roam.

I saw someone else posted that AIM killed their battery pretty quickly, so that is probably it. At least you figured it out early.

I think people just need to get used to it. :-p

make sure 4g and gps is off unless you need it. they are both huge battery killers.

i think the epic had much better battery life than my current evo does. as i said flash a custom rom & kernel.

AIM is actually known to be a battery killer. This is because it polls the AIM servers every 30 seconds or so. The AIM developers are working on changing this (beta tester here <g>) Right now, they recommend signing out of AIM when going to bed, etc., to save your battery life.

Not sure if this will effect the mobile app, but AIM is now interoperable with ghat so this should help battery: Google Talk and AIM to Become Interoperable

Also GPS is not a big battery killer when it is on. GPS is only activated when a app requests it, so if you have an app that uses GPS running (latitude, maps, etc...) it will burn battery, but otherwise it does not. I have never turned GPS off of my EVO or my Hero before that and have always had good battery life.

Turning the GPS on and off actually kills the battery faster. GPS is only using the battery when it needs to for specific apps. I always keep my GPS on cause its a pain in the ass waiting for it to turn on the grab my location.

My battery life has been good. Although when I'm at work it has been kinda terrible. But I guess that's because I work inside a high school and it be searching for a signal and all that stuff.

However I found that when I'm at work, if I turn off GPS, wifi and data sync my battery last for along time.

thanks guys for the responses. 4G was definitely off. - ok - just installed Open Advanced Task Killer - had closed all non essentials - phone sat around this AM - my son played construction game for 20 minutes or so and i opened the task killer and found these running (which weren't running earlier)
folder organizer
georeader
pandora
maps
clock
plus gmail and email - which i guess is to be expected

why would some of these be running? i'll check all apps setting again --thanks for your help!

4g should be off especially in an area with no 4g because it will keep searching for a signal and kill battery. gps can be on, unless there is an app that is constantly use it, keeping gps on should not kill battery, it only actually uses battery when an app is actively using the gps. I found this to be true with my EVO. I never turn off gps and experience no issues with it draining battery.
