Battery randomly dying

I've had the phone for just a couple weeks, last night i charged my phone up to 100% then unplugged it right away (was roughly 12:00am - 12:30am), this morning i woke up around 7:30am and found my battery dropped to 83%!!!!! When i looked at the battery usage it said only 1% was used from it being idle and i double checked and had no other apps open. Also noticed yesterday the phone was draining pretty quick, i only used it to take some pictures, listened to some music and text, iby the end of the day it dropped to 30%.

Starting to worry that my phone or battery is maybe defective?

1. "Being idle" means "staying connected to the tower". That does take some power. The kernel (the operating system - Android is an app, it's not the OS) also takes some power, and it's running at all times - but it's not listed. Other things, like Google Services, are also running at all times.

2. Dropping the battery to 30% will shorten its life, When it gets down to 40%, either charge it or turn it off.

3. Is the battery defective? That depends on how long you've been dropping it to what percentage. Letting a battery drop to 0% every charge cycle can completely kill it in a month. Keeping it between 50% and 95% can keep it going for years.

Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The Settings>Battery menu.
2. From the Settings>Battery menu, tap Menu>Battery Usage, then Menu>Show Full Device Usage to get the full graph.
3. To determine your cell signal strength, install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.

I never let it drop to below 50%, the other day was the first time i let that happen. What's odd is i charged it again in the morning to bring it to 99% then the battery was working great again the rest of the day, i'm into the next day now and still at 75%. I also had double checked to see if there was any updated or downloads it did without me knowing but i saw nothing.

Is there a way to test if the battery is defective? As an example yesterday i had my camera on for 20min and it dropped 10% (not sure if this is normal or not).

Ok i'll get this info!

I use AccuBattery. It will monitor your battery and will provide lots of data as to what is using your battery and give you an idea of the health of your battery after a few days of usage. I've had my phone since the end of May and my battery health is at 96%.

What could have happened is that your phone didn't go into sleep mode after you unplugged it and that's why you had that quick drainage and now everything seems to be normal again. I get at least 24 hours out of my battery, and I only charge it to 80% (per AccuBattery's recommendation) and I let it get down to about 20% before I charge it again.

I heard about that app, i might need to install it to be safe! Do you normally charge your battery to 100%?

That could make sense because 20% loss over night is huge! Is there a way to know if my phone went to sleep mode?

Seeing you have the phone as well, did you notice the battery goes down quick while using the camera or having it open for a bit of time?

Charging to 100% is normally fine, because the charger (the circuit inside the phone - the wall-wart is just a power supply - any 5 Volt power supply will do) normally cuts charging off at 100%. But if it fails, you could cook the battery, so I normally stop charging at about 95%-98%.
