Hello all. I got my Note 8 about a week ago. During this short time my phone has reached 100% on various
occasions but I've noticed that recently it has stopped at 90%. I unplug it and plug it back in and it resumes charging. I was wondering if this might be an issue on my phone, is it a setting or something else? Have any of you come through this issue and how did you fix It? My carrier told me it was a safety feature to protect the battery from overcharging but it seems implausible. I could still exchange the phone for a new one but I wanted to get some input here before I do that. Thank you all.

What cord and charger are you using, the stock stuff that came with it? I've had mine since Sept 7th, used very frequently, still charges too 100%

Your carrier is only partially correct in that it may be the result of a safety feature but not one designed to prevent overcharging. New models have a feature that stops charging if the battery temperature exceeds certain levels. Charging should resume when the battery temperature lowers. Your issue may be this or could likely be a software issue. You can start your phone in safe mode and charge it to see if it charges fully while in safe mode. If it does, start looking at any apps you've loaded since the problem began. A full restore would be a last resort option. Having said all that, it's only a week old, you could just exchange it and not spend a lot of time trouble shooting an issue you shouldn't have with a brand new phone.

Yeah I still use the stock one and it stops charging around 90, unplugging and plugging back in works. It's odd but I did read something about it being a safety thing when the battery gets above a certain temp

Thank you very much for your reply. I've read on some other forums that it's due to "swelling prevention mode" that prevents the battery from charging once it gets above a certain temperature. I will definitely try to charge it in safe mode before taking my device to my carrier as a last resort.
This makes me feel partially relieved because I thought something was wrong with my phone.

There is something wrong with your phone. There is safety protection, to avoid overheating during charging, but that shouldn't happen, unless your phone is under a blanket while charging. If you do a factory reset and still have the problem, exchange it within your initial 2 weeks.

The majority of us haven't ever had our N8 not charge to 100
percent on a first attempt. If a battery is overheating enough during charging to kick in protection, something is wrong.

Good point, I did find it rather odd. I'm gonna exchange my phone tomorrow for a new one. Thank you very much!

I exchanged my phone and got a new one, hopefully the problem doesn't persist. Thank you all for your time and wisdom, blessings.

Please confirm a happy ending to this story by letting us no that your replacement charges to 100 percent.

I posted the same issue. My phone will fully charge wirelessly but stops around 90% when charged through the USB. I considered returning the phone but I almost never charge with USB and setting up a new phone is such a hassell.

Haha I'm sorry for my bad manners, my new Note 8 now charges to 100% without any issue all the time. I guess my old model was faulty. But this one is perfect. Thank you all for your help and support!

I think it's best to set up a new phone. Think about it this way, right now it's stopping at 90%, but what if the situation worsens? By then it'll be too late to exchange your phone. I say go the safe route and put a bit of work into it rather than gambling with arbitrary odds
