I am new to android and i am really struggling with what battery tricks to do and don't do.

My battery lasted from 6:30am to 12:00 (5.5 hours). My two biggest battery drainers were "cell standby" 33%, and "android system" 29%. I have email, facebook, twitter, and weather set for reasonable sync times: 2 and 4 hours.

This battery drain occurred at school where it is basically a bomb shelter and I float between 0-1-2 bars of service.

I don't want to have all data off i think 2-4 hours sync is fair. What can i do to improve my battery life?

I have only fully charged the battery twice. will my battery life improve with more charges?

I could really use alot help any tricks or tips.

Thank you in advance.

Also i did the trick to log out of google talk but when i go to running services it is always there. Any help with this?

Question....

How do you go about setting sync times for apps. I'd like to do this to weather, calendar, etc... ????

I've tried a lot of the tricks and nothing seems to work for me. I am having far worse results on my Evo than what I did on my Pre.

1. Have you tried the UnrEVOked root method? It's a one tap root method, and does it all for you. I forgot where the download is. It'd be good if soemone posts it.

2. Then you just install the overclock widget... and set frequency from 245000 to 999999 when screen is on... and when screen is off, set it from 245000 to 245000.

3. Sign out of Gtalk and go to settings and see that it doesn't log you on.

4. Go to options from homescreen and look for the settings on sync... make sure you're not polling a lot.

5. My display is halfway cause I like it somewhat bright... but some people go as low as 10%... eww.

6. Use Wifi if you are close to the router and get good signal.

7. Bad 3g coverage can cost you a lot of battery. 4g alone can drain battery.

If I leave my phone alone, then I lose around 1-2%/hour... but I play Raging Thunder 2, so that's where I lose my battery. :)

With my light-moderate usage, I can get 12-14+ hours...

I think a lot of people in this thread missed the point that you are somewhere with known bad coverage being the root cause.

Do you plan on using the phone at all down there? I mean basically all your calls would probably be pretty bad anyhow. I would recommend you turn on airplane mode while you are at that area. You can still turn on wlan w/ airplane mode on, but that will make sure the CDMA radio is off.

If that helps out a lot, take a look at the app 'locale'. It can be configured to detect this situation (by those coordinates at school) and automate this for you. Then when you leave school, it will re-enable radios.
