Battery Use

I am trying to monitor my battery usage because I haven't been really impressed since I got the phone yesterday morning and I want to make sure it's not some app or widget being the problem (I also know that batteries need a few charges to get to their full capacity).

Anyway, I am looking at Battery Use in the settings and I only see Phone Idle, Cell Standby and Display. My non-rooted MT3G, also with Froyo, was showing all processed that used the battery.
Anybody has any idea why it's not showing up on the g2x?

those are all the processes used by the battery. it doesn't have a to be a long list to be a list ;)

also, do you have the app advanced task killer? it kills apps you're not using therefore extending battery life. (make sure you set it up not just download it!)

i only have those things in my list of battery use as well. maybe the apps automatically shut down on this phone?

Advanced Task Killer- more harm than good.

why do you say that? it improved my MT4G battery a lot when i had it on that phone...

I've read many times that task killers do more damage than good because it's better to let Android manage the tasks itself. When looking at the technical explications, it makes sense to me. That's why I do not want to use a task killer.

My previous phone did have a long list of processes. Those 3 processes listed are not the only ones using the battery. So I don't know why the g2x totally ignores those other processes and just split the battery use between those 3 which is totally inaccurate.

Thanks though

idk why the phone is ignoring it...but my phone doesn't seem to have battery issues so oh well i guess

I'm happy with my battery life so far. Charged it 16 hours ago, moderate usage, and it's at 1/2 charge. I was expecting much worse.

I may have been playing with it a little too much :) and that's why I was trying to figure out what's draining the battery.

I am having a battery problem - I was at full charge before i went to bed last night - I woke up to my phone being dead. I am almost positive my GPS is eating my battery but I cannot turn it off. I don't want to use Task killer as my droid friends have warned me about it. But i am a bit stuck atm.

That won't solve your problem if your phone indeed has a defect but I personally got into the habit to put my phone on airplane mode at night if I am not charging it. That way it doesn't drain the battery and I still have my full charge in the morning.

out of curiosity, why would "cell standby" be taking up 49% of my battery? i didn't think sitting there and doing nothing took up that much energy :p

I think that circles back to my original question. It looks like it's splitting the battery use between those 3 processes instead of showing the real consumption split making those numbers wrong and meaningless :)

I've had the G2X off the charger for about 10 hours, and I'm down to 32%. I'm just about used to less-than-stellar battery life on Android devices, but I can't deal with a dead phone after 12 hours of battery-conscious usage. Does anyone have any experience with the Galaxy S 4G? My Captivate got a decent day worth of use, maybe that would be a little better. If this thing can't hold up, I might as well return it and hold out for the Sensation.

Battery

I had a GS4G for about 2 weeks and the battery life is about the same as the G2x even though the GS4G has a bigger battery. I have been ok with the battery life not either really pleased or disappointed (and that is coming from Blackberry 9700 that would last 2 days at times). I am hoping that gingerbread will help with this a little bit as well.

that's a little odd...i'd go into TMO and see if they can give you a new battery. maybe that'll help.

So I was having some pretty bad battery drain problems - 10% in an hour, etc. Here's what I've done to fix it:

1) did a full wipe/reset charge cycle
2) used titanium backup to freeze the t-mobile apps
3) set wifi sleep settings to never

in the last two hours, with the phone just sitting in my pocket (wifi on), I've only lost 2% battery. now I'm turning wifi off and letting it sit with a 4g connection, to see if its still doing okay. Either way, what this says to me is that it's a software problem, likely with the t-mobile apps. So hopefully there is an easy fix!

also hopefully when CM7 is released for it all should be good as well.

My battery life on my G2X has been amazing, I have tested out the HTC Thunderbolt and the G2X surpasses it on many levels. With moderate usage of GPS, Twitter, emails, I have got through a full of use easily with 30% or so still left :)

After 8 hours of less than moderate usage, I was getting a power-saver message on my screen. I was working all day, barely using the device, and it's dying. Had to plug it in for a couple hours just to make it through my Saturday night. Just awaiting the arrival of my Nexus S from Best buy and I'll be shipping this one back to Wirefly.
