Battery won't charge via USB cable

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my battery. First of all, I'm not charging the phone with the adapter. I'm charging the phone with a USB cable connected to my desktop. Last night, I had a 77% charge before going to bed. I plugged the USB cable anyway to charge the phone completely. This morning, while the USB cable was still plugged in, I looked at the battery meter widget and it showed 100% charged. But as soon as I unplugged the USB cable I saw the power saving mode message. Then the charge dropped to 30%! Not only the phone was not charged, but it drained the battery. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Does your phone take charge via USB port?

It could be that your USB port isn't supplying enough power so the phone might not allow it to charge.
