Hi All,

At the beginning of March I upgraded from a iPhone 12 Pro Max with 87% battery health to a S24 Ultra.

I really like the phone however the battery really isn't meeting my expectations. I am struggling to get over 4hrs SOT (Screen On Time) without going below 20% charge level.

.

At first I was told this is normal for Samsung devices as they are learning my usage pattern but I have had the device over 2 weeks and the battery life has not improved at all.

Coming from an iPhone with 87% battery health to the flagship S24 Ultra I certainly wasn't expecting battery life issues. I am utterly disappointed. What is even more frustrating is that I have made many additional changes to my settings to optimise the battery life (None of which was necessary on my iPhone) including:

Disabling 5G

Dark Mode

30 seconds screen lock time

Lite performance profile

Putting over 90% off my apps into deep sleep

Adaptive screen brightness

Wipe Cache partition

Latest updates

And many more I haven't included

I understand there are further improvements I could make like turning off 120hz refresh rate and always on display but why should I have to do this on Samsung's flagship device.

I see many people claiming over 9hours SOT with still over 20 battery left!

What am I doing wrong??

Many thanks for any suggestions

I'd suggest you stop changing variables with your phone. I'm not positive, but I'd imagine that every time you make an operational change to your phone, there are subsequent impacts. set the phone how you'd like it. use it. go on about your life. check back in a month. that would be my approach. good luck 👍🏻

Rather than constantly making changes to your phone you need to go into your battery stats and check it a couple of times a day to find out which apps are using up your battery.

Your SOT time is really out of line and I suspect you have a rogue app or one that is performing incorrectly. You need to find out what it is and then proceed from there to remove it or fix it.

I haven't been too happy with Surprisingly, approx 2~3 weeks after updating to UI 6.0, my S23+'s [4700 mAh] batterys' performance actually improved, to where it's now lasting 4 1/2 days + on one charge!

My Shining Bride has an S23U that she gets incredible battery performance stats with! Even though she never turns her Wi-Fi or Mobile data off, but just leaves them on all the time, often listening to Amazon Music, with lots of misc recipe websites & canning groups & cooking forums & Pinterest SOT &c. 🙃 🙄 So go figure. I don't get it. 🤔

Whatever you do, I wouldn't let anyone talk you into dwnld'g one of those battery apps, as each time I've dwnld'd a battery app in the past, (3 times), after it was suggested to me that I do so, my Samsung battery performance actually got worse! And stayed worse after I dumped the battery app. Just fwiw; ymmv.

Your cell signal isn't the best -- poor signal can drain battery, even if you're on wi-fi. Can you show us a screenshot of your Battery Usage menu that shows system app/service usage as well? There should be a menu option that allows you to see that. If Cell Standby or something similar is using a lot of battery, that would point to a signal issue.

Another troubleshooting step would be to boot in to Safe Mode, and see if you can get by for a day just using stock apps: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/. If the battery life is much better, then something you installed is likely the culprit. Pinpointing that app can be a bit of a challenge, but this would be a start.

There are literally dozens of guides online related to improved battery life. They're all virtually the same and use the same tips and tricks but comes down to deciding what type of user you're going to be. Do you want the highest performance and an all day battery? Do you want essential use and last more than 24? In the end it all becomes subjective. Your mix won't match mine but I'm happy with my result. Just got to get you to your ideal result.

What do you believe should be your result?

It shouldn't be complicated to get good battery life. When I got my S23 Ultra I got over 8 hours screen time pretty easy. Unfortunately, Android 14 with the One Ui/A.i. killed the battery life. Now its under 6 hours. I bought the S24 Ultra based on some reviews that it was really good. It wasn't compared to when I originally got my S23U so I returned it.
