OK, so first off, I really shouldn't say BB Blacktie can suck it, but it was an EXTREMELY frustrating situation.

Bought the phone on release day, and 28 days in...my earpiece speaker blew. Well, due to the severe awesomeness of our device, and as I'm sure you all know, replacement evo's were (and still are) incredibly hard to come by. I was calling BB after BB, looking to do a return/exchange, but no one could find any. Finally, talked to a store that assured me they would let their manager know about the 2 days left in my 30 day return, and notate my account, in turn notifying me when a replacement arrived. No call for a week. Went into the store, and lo and behold no notation in my account, and was informed that the geek squad could ONLY send it off for repairs, since I was past my 30 day window. Great. *side note here, it was my stupidity for not getting a legit conformation, so no harm no foul. whatever. Anywho, everyone in the geek squad department ASSURED ME that in about a week, the techs at HTC would call and inform them to just issue me a replacement. FOUR WEEKS LATER. Now I'm frustrated, but joyous because my little baby is finally back from the tech doctors. Aside from the speaker, they had also (upon my request) replaced the top half of the phone to eliminate the screen leak light leakage. So, on the order form, we have a conformation stating that they fixed the speaker, AND the screen. Of course I forgot the battery for my phone, so couldn't test anything until I got back to my house.

Well, whaddaya know, speaker is still blown. Back down to BB. Mind you, the mobile department at this best buy is INCREDIBLY nice, and have done everything possible to make the situation right...but they tell me the ONLY thing they can do is send it back out for repairs. For another month. AND, they can't give me a replacement until after the phone has been sent out and remains unfixed FOUR TIMES!!!

So now, I'm just extremely pissed.

On top of it all, the tech's working on my phone had removed the watermark on the inside of the casing, so I don't know what to do as far as taking it to a sprint store.

Folks, lemme tell you, if you EVER HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT ON THE PHONE, take it to a sprint service center. Screw Blacktie protection.

I literally took it into their office, and twenty minutes later came out with fully functioning phone. No questions, no paperwork, just gave them my phone number for my account, and voila. Prolbem solved.

THANK YOU SPRINT SERVICE CENTER IN DENVER

BBP is insurance, so yeah if you have a defect let the carrier to the work. Sprint insurance and BBP are for when you cause the damage.

Phones sent to repair with BB GSBTP (Best Buy geek squad black tie protection) are sent to the geek squad repair center. Not to HTC, Blackberry, Samsung, etc... contrary to what they may have told you, or what you may have *assumed*.

They repair phones based on accumulated parts from other people who have sent in horribly and grotesquely damaged phones . say one that had been run over by a car).. but had salvageable parts. If they do not have them on hand... they order them. If it can't be repaired, they replace it. It's a good plan, considering you can do it as much as you want. replace it as much as you want, with no deductible.. Take it from someone who had a Palm Pre replaced (not repaired) 6 or 7 times in about 3 months. And they didn't terminate my plan.

HTC probably doesn't have what you needed. Or the geek squad center.

Speaking of the Pre... when it came out, and I needed it replaced, I had to wait about 30 days for one.. It was because they didn't have them.. the Evo is on a shortage of sorts, right now.

best buy should have given you a loaner phone (maybe not a smartphone, but still a phone).. that would have got you thru the wait. Only geek squad counter can note the repair as you wanted (and stated below)... not the mobile department.. they do not have access to the same computer system.

What does it matter? Based on the OP's experience, to get it fixed up that many times would mean they would be without their phone for over 6 months!

Sprint's service is cheaper month-to-month, covers more, and is hands down much faster. No need to put up with this stupid "loaner" stuff.

How much was the repair??

Geeksquad as mentioned just sends to their own repair centers. I can tell you from being an ex employee there, the service centers suck and most of the time will need to go back and forth multiple times as they come back not fixed.

If manufacturer defect, take it to Sprint to deal with. HTC will cover the costs then as its their problem.
If you break it, then go to Geeksquad and hope for the best.

And the Black tie covers one occurance if it is a replcement plan. I dont think the phones are replacement, but like Ipods and stuff are straight replacement in store. Once replaced, your acct is null and you would need to purchase again on the replaced one if you wanted it again.

I tried to use the Black Tie insurance since my charging port came loose.. They wanted $150 for a "loaner" phone, which they claim I'd get back.. but I shouldn't have to pay a deposit for a "loaner" phone, since they already have my phone (which is worth waaay more than a loaner phone). I then called Sprint (because no service centers in my area are open or have a technician on site on Sundays), Sprint gave me $100 credit on my account then had me call Assurion and have them bill my account for $100, so it ends up costing me nothing. Best Buy said it'd take 2-6 weeks to get my phone back, and Assurion said it'd take 7-10 business days, due to shortage. Definately cancelling my Best Buy protection and sticking with Sprint's only..
When I signed up for the BBBTP, they told me that it was a simple swap if my phone had issues, but unfortunately they were wrong (i.e. lied), so I definately won't get it for cellphones any more.
