ok wife and i just switched to android i got the droid x and she got a droid pro. pretty disappointed in battery life. the guy at the store loaded a task killer on the phones and from what ive read thats not a good thing. so should we delete the task killer thing and if we do does the battery life get worse? we had blackberry before and really liked them but liked the screen size of the droids better. will be grateful for any tips or tricks for using the android.
thanks Paul

Verdict is out on task killers (my brother has a Droid and has had a task killer on it for an entire year with killer battery life) but the general consensus is that they're pointless or bad. At first the battery life does seem terrible, but there are a lot of little things you can do to save battery life.

1. Root - but that is the most drastic measure. I, and lots of people here, would recommend doing this to use your phone in its fullest potential. But it can look a little scary to someone who isn't very techy (like me). If you read the forums about rooting your devices and feel up to trying, I recommend it.

2. WiFi - Turn this off when you can't connect to WiFi. It drains the battery searching for networks if you aren't connected to one.

3. Brightness - Put your brightness on Auto or just on a very low setting. Display is the main culprit for battery drain.

4. Auto Sync - If you have this on at really short intervals, this also drains battery.

There are tons of other things you can do. Search the forums. There are lots of threads about battery life! Welcome!

Welcome to A/C. Task killers are no good. Just let the Android do it's thing with task. Task killers were useful but then 2.0 came out and optimized the system and task killers made the phone worse.

Ok thanks for the welcome and thanks for the info ill delete task killer and what is rooting thanks again Paul
Rooting makes your phone awesome. It allows you to remove the bloatware (a lot of the preloaded stuff you don't ever use that take up space and memory), install themes and customize your phone in ways you couldn't imagine!

Rooting allows you to have access to the system settings of your phone, much like having administrator rights on you computer.I strongly urge you to get to know your phone first and then do your homework before rooting.it's not for everyone, but if you decide to take the plunge, there are definitely some benefits, like tweaking certain settings.
