Before I void my warranty, what to check?

As I wait for my N1 to arrive, I've made all of the preparations to root the thing and slap a cyanogen ROM on there. I have no issues voiding warranties. My car, my Tivos, my Nokia E71, etc, all have had their warranties via a hack or two ;).

Yet, I admit to wanting to root the N1 within moments of booting it up for the first time. But if I do, what risk am a I taking? Wouldn't it be better to wait a week to make sure that I don't have a defective unit.

What should I look for in that week? Out of the few N1s that need to be replaced, what are the most common issues?

To be honest, yes. I would advise waiting a week or two just to make sure. Seems that the most common issue is the screen with dust under it but search around to see what issues everyone is/may have. I have heard numerous reports of people sending their N1 in with a unlocked bootloader and HTC seeing it was a manufacturing defect(ie: dust) and repairing the phone for free under warranty. That doesn't mean that you will get the same courtesy as the others but it is worth noting. If you did have to send it back as long as HTC feel the problem could be from rooting the device they shouldn't give you any grief.
