Before you root, you better read this thread

Coming from p3droid, I'm more inclined to believe it than not. It sucks really. Android is losing it's luster in my eyes and if google doesn't push a nexus device that is compatible with ever carrier, then the tbolt will definitely be my last. Hello iPhone!!!

stop pushing all your crap stuff on me, ya I am talking to you verizon, and I would have less reason to root, I think in the last 3 years I have used wireless tether or an app like that 3 or 4 times so that is not really a big deal.

I know him well from the OG Droid days so take a step back. Even he has said there's more questions than answers. Publishing that and stirring the pot with no hard evidence is in poor taste. So is charging people for a leaked, unofficial update.

Lol to think the big bad companies can stop the users. If there's one thing that money making corporations should have figured out over the past 30 years is that if a hacking community wants to do something with the thing they've bought from you they're going to ****ing do it. The more money you put into countermeasures the more determined they'll be to crack it.

Once I buy a phone, it is mine to do what I want with. If I buy data, it is MINE too. Verizon will rip money out of your wallet deceptively. They get new costomers on the hook often. If you read between the lines, and take the last ruling that rooting is deemed fair practice, you can legally root! Hacking data you pay for to extend beyond your phone without verizons re charge is another debate. ROOTING is not breaking any laws and there is nothing they can do aside from throwing roadblocks in the way to discourage you. The last thing I will fear in life is a cellular phone company.

Technically it's legal but Verizon doesn't have to allow those devices on their network. In the existing TOS they have "We can, without notice, limit, suspend or end your Service or any agreement with you for any good cause, including, but not limited to: (d) modify your device from its manufacturer's specifications". I can see them watching out for those who are taking advantage of the system and tethering 20-30GB per month but bothering the regular rooters would basically be them hanging themselves.

blah blah blah.

pushing an "update" to my phone is a security issue, i can easily change back to stock as fast as rooting.

Than they better do Xfinity and begin renting phones. As long as we buy the device, they have to honor service to that device. Can they void the warranty. Sure, can they throttle data or deny service to devices not paying for it under their terms? Sure. Can they deny me service because I am rooted? 100% ILLEGALLY THEY CAN NOT!

Rooting is legal, using apps once rooted that allow for free tethering or other services that you would otherwise have to pay for is not. Carriers are going to do whatever they can to prevent that.

Indeed good sir, but they must be careful not to intimidate customers that root. I personally don't mind paying, but I despise not having control over something I own. Bloat should never be permanent once the device is mine. Apple loses big in DRM ruling: jailbreaks are "fair use"

yeah, that article is like comparing apples to oranges with what we're talking about. Rooting should fall under fair use but there are plenty of clauses in the TOS that clearly prohibit circumventing tethering policies and Verizon would most likely win in the name of "protecting" their network from abuse. I still think it's silly that they claim "unlimited" data yet limit the ways you can use it. On the tiered plans, are they going to get rid of the extra add-on? If I want 2-5GB of data, it shouldn't matter where that data comes from.

You have a bad habit of not paying attention to what you read. Jailbreaking or rooting does not give you the right to use apps that allow for free usage of services you would otherwise have to pay for. If you can't comprehend the difference, please stop posting.

I edited, and agree. I am using a display hack and it is set at 5%it lol. My bad. Where do you get this "habbit" from? I am happy to edit any other post I have misread ;-)
