Beginner Root Help

I am trying to figure out how to root my droid incredible but am having trouble. Can someone please explain in basic terms how to do this. The reason I am doing this is to make the battery life better on the phone and I would also like to use the phone as a tether. Unrevoked will root the phone but then I have to install other stuff on my SD card?? I would like to keep sense if possible. Not sure what these ROM and Kernel things are.

How do I go about this and what's the best way to increase my battery life?

In his guide he take you thru the rooting process step by step, it's very well explained, and easy to follow and Dan (the writer) is very responsive to questions. He also explains about loading new ROM's, kernels & other good stuff.

If you want to keep your stock sense in a ROM, I like "Hey It's Lou's" Redemption ROM 2.3, it also has a non stock kernel in it, which will help your battery life.

Once you read the guide, I'm sure you will start to understand the process, if not, ask more questions, this forum has a lot of helpful people in it.

For some reason the link is dead. I am ready to root but have some questions and want to be clear on the terminology on a few things and hoped the guide could answer them for me.

I can't speak for Upstreammiami but I don't think he can do it without you accessing a computer. He did not root for me, but I've seen enough posts and feedback from others that I would vouch for him. If you can access a mac, I would recommend Unrevoked. It is really painless and easy.....and worth the benefits.

If you don't feel like waiting, just download Unrevoked and root from there (if you're on a PC, you'll have to download hboot drivers as well. There are plenty of tutorials floating around). It's really easy and takes about 5 minutes.

Of course, I've heard nothing but good things about Upstream's help (and he's great about posting new stuff to flash).
