Hey folks,

Looking for a good Android equivalent of Apple's Notes app that can handle data transfer.

I'm switching from iOS to a Pixel 9a and need to migrate 10+ years of Notes data. Apple Notes handles plain text, rich formatting, checklists, tags, images and file attachments - it's central to my workflow.

The Pixel imported my Notes into Keep, but stripped out all formatting, dates, folders, tags, images, attachments and pinned items. I'm left with just plain text items (many now totally empty) in a random order. This is of no use whatsoever.

What I need:

Rich text formatting support

Organization features (folders/tags)

Ability to import/recreate my Notes structure

Can handle images and can lock items

Free preferred, but open to paid options

Has anyone successfully migrated from Notes to an Android app? What worked best?

Thanks in advance!

You could create a folder in Drive labeled 'Notes'. Within that folder, your notes pages can be a Google Docs file. You can make folders within the Notes folder (I don't think Docs does tags, but to be fair, I don't use tags in any application). Docs can handle images; I'm just not sure how easy it is to do so on mobile. Locking is not possible.

I think overall, the one requirement that you may have to give up is the import/recreate Notes structure. I'm not aware of any file or format from Apple that can be used outside the Apple ecosystem.

I asked Google if there was a way to fully import iOS Notes into an Android app and got this reply.

To transfer notes from an iOS Notes app to an Android app, you can use email, iCloud, or third-party apps like Leawo iTransfer. For simple text-based notes, emailing them to yourself and then accessing them on your Android device is a straightforward approach. If you use iCloud, you can also access your notes through the iCloud website on your Android browser. For more complex scenarios or to transfer other data types, third-party apps like Leawo iTransfer or the Switch to Android app might be helpful. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

This video explains how to transfer notes from iPhone to Android using Smart Switch and other methods:
Here's a more detailed breakdown of the methods:
1. Emailing Notes:

  • Open the note in the iOS Notes app.
  • Tap the Share button (usually an up-arrow in a box).
  • Select "Mail".
  • Enter your email address and send the note.
  • On your Android device, open your email app and access the email.
  • You can then copy and paste the note content into your desired Android note-taking app. [1, 1]
2. Using iCloud:
  • Ensure your iPhone notes are synced with iCloud (Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Notes). [3, 3]
  • On your Android device, open a web browser and go to iCloud.com. [3, 3, 4, 4]
  • Sign in with your Apple ID. [3, 8]
  • Access your notes from the iCloud interface. [3, 3]
  • You can then copy and paste the note content into your Android note-taking app. [3, 9]
3. Using Third-Party Apps (e.g., Leawo iTransfer): [2, 2, 10]
  • Download and install Leawo iTransfer on your computer.
  • Connect both your iPhone and Android devices to your computer.
  • Follow the app's instructions to transfer the notes. [2, 2]
4. Using Switch to Android (for new Android devices): [5, 5, 11]
  • If you are setting up a new Android device, the Switch to Android app can help transfer data, including notes, during the setup process.
  • You may need a cable or Wi-Fi connection to transfer data. [5, 5]
5. Exporting Notes as PDF:
  • Open the note in the iOS Notes app.
  • Tap the Markup icon (usually a circle with a pen inside).
  • Tap "Done" and then "Save PDF to Files".
  • The PDF can then be transferred to your Android device via various methods (email, cloud storage, etc.). [12, 12, 13, 14]
