I've seen several people confused about the Best Buy Buyback pre-order situation with Best Buy. I received this flyer from Best Buy(at least a week ago) confirming that Best Buy Mobile starts pre-orders on the 7th, we CAN use the $50 trade-in/Save $50 on the Evo LTE, and that we can pre-order at any Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile, or Bestbuy.com.

I read something on another topic here about not having to have a deposit foe Best Buy. Any truth to that rumor?

I just pre-ordered in-store at BB. Here's my experience: The sales guy told me the $50/$50 buyback on the original EVO has expired, and the phone they're buying back under that deal now is a Motorola, despite the fact that the EVO signage is still up in the store. And I did NOT have to put down a deposit to preorder the new phone.

It looks like it isn't required online and they will charge when it ships, I'm not sure about what they're doing in store and it doesn't say anything on the flyer..

you can get 70 dollars buyback from sprint w/o buying a new phone from them. then just order a phone of wirefly for 150. how much is bestbuy selling it for?

It does say in the fine print on the flyer that not all stores may be participating in the buyback program but you should still receive the $50 gift card for buying the EVO LTE, I kinow anyone buying it online will.

so i just checked on bestbuy.com and it's 200 w/ the 50 giftcard. wouldn't it be a better deal to sell your evo back to sprint and order evo off wirefly or amazon? amazon might be even better if you are willing to wait since they don't charge sales tax.

Best Buy is $199 with a $50 gift card. I checked out wirefly this morning and it looks like the best deal, at least they're giving a $10 google wallet credit.

Also guys, keep in mind that BB and Wirefly require a $36 activation fee and Sprint doesn't. So even if you get the phone from them you're really only saving about $14. Plus with Sprint you may get it a little early. I still haven't decided what to do...

Thanks, I completely forgot about Amazon. . .That's probably who I will go with, Sales tax for me is around $18 I think.

Sprint DOES require a $36 dollar UPGRADE fee-
And I spoke to a supervisor and a rep from escalations- they will not waive it-

i am pretty sure sprint still charge you 36 activation fee. they charged me when i ordered the galaxy nexus but credited me when i returned it.

I've done everything online(Sprint.com) except confirm my order and haven't read anything about a $36 fee other than the activation fee with "fee waived" next to it....If there is a $36 "upgrade" fee then they haven't shown it to me and I won't be paying it. Of course I'm running on 2 hours sleep so I may be delusional.

Sometimes they have a free activation special online, like right now..... but now I am confused about the activation fee vs. upgrade fee.

AFAIK, Activation and upgrade are teh same. it is now $36 and is only waived (by sprint) for new lines. certain retailers can waive it (wirefly is doing so now for the next day or two, but not on the evo 4g lte)

I apologize for any incorrect information you received. The upgrade/activation fees apply to both new and refurbished devices. When ordering a phone through sprint.com, any applicable upgrade or activation fees are shown before the order has been submitted. After the device has been added to the cart, the $36 upgrade fee would be displayed under ? activation, upgrade and other one-time fees.?

Sprint does run promotions from time to time. Currently there is a promotion to waive the activation fee for new lines of service only on sprint.com from 3/28/12 to 4/4/12. If an order qualifies for this promotion, it would not show a charge for the activation fee when placing the order.

Found this online(although it is a couple months old it seems valid), Sprint is currently running a special again and will waive the $36 fee if ordering online. At least this is the case with my account. They do want $26 for taxes though. . . :(

Pre-ordered from Sprint, they only charged $0.46 tax. There is a one-time upgrade fee of $36, to be charged on my first month's bill with the new phone.

It's weird how we can get such different results from Sprint.com, they want $26 in taxes from me but no activation/upgrade fee. I know I have high taxes in my area but that still doesn't explain the activation fee.....
