Best Buy offering $400 off Verizon variant of Pixel 2 XL

Be careful if you plan on doing anything with the phone - the Verizon 2 (I don't know about their XL) has the bootloader welded shut. No TWRP, no Magisk, no ROMS, no kernels.

It's 2018.

I would hope no one would need to do any of this.

Since the S9 announcement I've been trying to plan my next phone purchase and noticed verizon was running a deal on the Pixel 2 XL and by chance happened to see that Best Buy is extending that.

Heading there after work to hopefully cash in on a (hopefully) great deal on a (hopefully) great phone :D

If all retailers are in sync, this pricing will go through 3/31. The good thing about the Best Buy deal is the immediate $100 off. Essentially, Best Buy is putting a $100 downpayment.

The rest of the discount is $300 worth of bill credits for 24 months. And if you pay it off early, the bill credits will end.

For example:

Keep the phone for all 24 months, you'll end up only paying $449.76.

But say the Pixel 3 comes out in 8 months and you want to use your upgrade to get that phone on a payment plan. In order to buy a new phone on a payment plan, you'd have to pay off the current payment plan. I think the total including the payoff amount will be $649.76.

I HATE the bill credit scam....

Yeah same here, that’s why I buy unlocked if you can do so it the best way to go. T-Mobile doesn’t carry the Pixel so had no choice anyway. Didn’t even realize until I looked yesterday but I’m getting a $100 Google Store credit for buying the Pixel XL. I’ll take that

If you have issues (screen, reboots, overheating, etc.) with a phone purchased via a third party (Best Buy, Target, Verizon, etc.) can you go direct to Google like you can Apple? Or will they direct you back to where the phone was originally purchased?

The Pixel may be one great phone but very unfortunately sales have been abysmal compared to Samsung and Apple. Hence some great deals. I'd like to see greater competition even though I'm a Note line guy.

Yeah I don't think Google had sales goals anywhere near Galaxy S/Note or iPhone numbers.

careful with this deal through Best buy. I tried taking advantage of this deal during the one day sale on Feb. 16th and it showed the phone wouldn't be in store for pickup until today -march 2nd- however, once I got to the store they told me that it seemed the shipment was going to be delayed until March 16th...that's an entire month to wait for a phone which is completely unacceptable to me. I cancelled my order when I got home and went directly through Verizon instead to get the 2xl for $300 off. I'll be picking it up in store tomorrow.

sucks that I'm paying $100 more than I would have through Best buy but their whole system seems to be a mess and they don't update you on anything.

I came to the unfortunate realization that my ROM days are likely over when I got my S7 Edge on Verizon...same continues with this pixel as it seems pretty locked down. Fortunately the need to root is pretty greatly reduced compared to the early days of Android IMO.

Got the phone without issue and I'm pretty happy with it - to use the most overused phrase in any phone review it "feels very snappy". I like the lack of bloat since most things that come with it are apps I'd download anyway. Biggest negative is the screen...even between the S7 Edge and the Pixel there is no comparison. I'm using the saturated screen mode and it feels a lot better but man, it's not the phone's strong suit. Haven't got to really use the camera but I am optimistic based on the what I've read.

Are you saying you ordered online for store pickup, got confirmation that the phone was ready for pickup, and got told that the phone wasn't there when you went to pick it up?

So is it just me or does it seem like Google has no interest in selling the regular Pixel 2? My wife would love to upgrade to our camera but she doesn't like big phones so she doesn't want the XL. There's no way she be for paying full price on the P2 bc she's not a huge fan of how the front of the phone looks but if there were a sale like this she might reconsider.

Not quite, it wasn't confirmed that it was ready for pickup. However, I wanted to go in to check and see when I could expect it to come in. Which is when they called the district warehouse and were informed that shipping would be delayed until at least March 16th.

I never had any indication that my shipment would be delayed until I physically went and got someone at the store to find out what was going on for me. Highly unprofessional and annoying to have to wait over a month for a phone in 2018.

And who knows if it would've even been there on the 16th? Wasn't going to sit around and wait for them to screw me over again.

I just had mine shipped to me when I ordered it. I got it in 2 business days. 128gb panda version.

Unfortunately, it appears that Best Buy has discontinued the additional $100 discount on the Pixel 2 XL 128gb model as of today. (Purchasers can still get the $300 billing credit, but that's provided by Verizon.) Based on past experience, though, I think it's likely that they'll run the promotion again in the next month or two.

Purchased mine using this deal. Bought it on 02 March and it arrived a day earlier (07 March) than the expected arrival date.

I know everyone is hating on the deal because it "locks" you in. To me it's a so what? I'm not changing carriers anytime soon (use Verizon because it has best coverage of what my wife & I need). And the price is ridiculous, after all the payments a 128GB Pixel 2 XL cost me $550. I'm not paying an extra $300 to get it unlocked, that's the price of getting out of the contract anyways lol.

I don't hate it because it looks me into Verizon... I don't plan on leaving them. I hate it because I like to update more often than yearly and if I do I lose some of the promotional money.
