Best buy just updated the instant savings from $50 too $100 with (Activate Today) unlocked version
S20 = 899
S20+ =1099
S20 ultra = 1299

Curious if you activate your unlocked line doesn't that essentially give the provider the right to charge you an activation fee as opposed to just reusing the Sim card you already have?

Yes, to get the discount you have to activate the phone with them at the time of purchase ($30 for Verizon I think)

Yes you get charged the activation fee if you go that route but depending on the savings you may still come out on top. For example, let’s say they give you $100 discount if you activate the unlocked model thru Best Buy then you still save $60 after the $40 activation fee Verizon charges. If they are offering $50 or less then just go without activation and use your existing sim.

Basically when the say activation, it means they go thru carrier systems and treat that as an upgrade and as usual the useless carriers charge for every little thing and add activation or similar fee based on carrier. You can also try calling your carrier and try them to waive the charge if you decide to go that route.
