Best Buy won't sell me an S III

So on my lunch break I decided to stop by the Best Buy in The Woodlands to check on the SIII availability. Well the gentleman at Best Buy Mobile said they just got a "grip" of them in but wasn't allowed to sell them. At first I thought they might have been reserves for preorders which is fair enough, but he said they were a mix, but was told they might not be able to sell them until July?! Why would this be if the official launch date was the 21st? Never heard of anything like this. Anyone know what might be up here?

I really am starting to believe that many of these Best Buys are thinking that the Verizon release date is the release date for all other carriers. They do not seem to be reading their corporate communication emails, which state that there are no release dates attached to any of the phones, with the exception being the Verizon ones. (At least that is what I was told.)

Edit: Now I am being told July (wanted to call today to see what the status was).... *sigh*

Edit: Spoke to manager in the mobile department and was told that those who per-ordered will get them the minute they come in... so, no waiting till July it seems.

Did you try talking to the manager? Are you on the preorder list?

BB told me they were getting them the 28th but were not allowed to sell them until 7/1. Guy didn't know why just that they couldn't sell them until then unless it was a pre-order.

Not on the preorder list just wanted to drop in, and see if they had available stock since I was driving by. I should have talked to a manager but I didn't want to cause a scene and figured perhaps he knew what he was doing. But why on earth would anyone actually refuse a sale?! It makes no sense really.

They must have a company wide policy to fill the pre-orders first and then the 28th or the 1st for everybody else. The SIII has been released but that doesn't determine BB company policy.

That makes sense, but he said they actually had about 10 preorders that won't even get theirs yet either. I'm guessing the 28th is the official date.

Sounds about right. Either way my hunt will begin the week of the 1st since I didn't pre-order.
