So, i see the different picture size options for rear facing camera. What is going to give the best pictures..Why use one vs the other?

I just use the default 16MP size. I love the 16:9 aspect ratio and the level of detail within the image is the best. I would only use another size if...

1. You want your pictures to take up less space
2. You want 4:3 images
3. You want less detail (why?)

Correct. Some people prefer that ratio for posting to instagram or Facebook.

4:3 is proper photo size (if you are printing them) 16:9 is for widescreen so ideal for looking at on a phone / computer / TV

also good to know.... can you change the ratio once the picture has been taken?

Yes but going from a 16:9 to a 4:3 you will lose some of the left/right side of the picture. Going from a 4:3 to a 16:9 you will lose some top/bottom of the picture. (You're technically just cropping the orginal picture)

So what do you choose then if you have TWO of each size? Like I have a 4:3 (12 M) that's 4032x3024, and then right below it, I have a 4:3 (6.2 M) 2880x2160. The same goes for the 16:9 s. And the 1:1s! It seems like once again it's just size, but why have the same ratios but different pixels I'm assuming? Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!

less pixels, smaller file size

Hi lucianus, thank you for replying. I get that one is a smaller size than the other but I don't know what if any, affect that wud have on the picture ( making one of them a better choice than the other in terms of picking which setting to keep my device on while retaining the optimum quality possible for a camera phone. Any thoughts on that? Thanks again, K.

i always leave it on the highest resolution possible and switch between 16:9 when shooting landscapes and 4:3 for portraits of people or close ups

The larger the picture the larger the print you can make from it. Figure about 200-300 dots per printed inch for the best quality.

I've got my camera set on 16: ratio. After putting on my computer and putting on background it on takes up center of screen. I don't like this, is this because of the 16: ratio? What can I do and leave phone settings where there at? Thanks
