Best/favorite security app for Galaxy s4

I've been using trustgo security since I got my s4 and I like it, but I was wondering what the best or your favorite security app is.

Why hasn't it gotten a bigger userbase, seeing as how it's free?

I was originally using Lookout, but they started charging for the extra features, I was grandfathered in, because I was one of the many original users before they started charging, but when I changed to an HTC Incredible S -- originally had a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 -- I lost the "special features", so I didn't bother downloading it and installing it on my Galaxy Nexus; but now that I have an S4 I may take a look at TrustGo, providing that it is truly free!

Avast. I tried TrustGo and AVG first then Avast. For me it worked the best. I couldn't find an setting in the other two to scan files on the external sd card but Avast makes that easy to do. That was an important feature for me since I store a lot of files on the external card. Just my opinion though, everybody has their own favorites. They all seem to work equally well. Although during my use with these three, TrustGo identified one of my apps as a threat while the other two did not. It was Bunny Shooter of all things, been using it for years on many different devices without a hitch. So I'm not really concerned that its a real problem.

I was using Norton Lite (free), and it was ok. I wanted to see how many apps I could load onto my Samsung captivate so I also
downloaded TrustGo, Avast, and AVG. None interfered with the other. I erased AVG because it did nothing. On Norton I only use the free
Norton utilities for quick cache clearing and task clearing.
My favorites are TrustGo and Avast and they do not do the same things. TrustGo scans your phone when you turn it on before a screen
displays and I like it. But Avast will ask for permission for text acceptance and has more apps you can access and it tells you which apps
have accessed your special info like personal information.
I plan on getting the Samsung galaxy s4. Samsung is using the Knox security system which I believe is free but not out yet, and it has
cleared Pentagon use. Until then I plan on downloading Trustgo and Avast.

You'll get a variety of conflicting answers to this question every time you ask it.

Personally, I feel that common sense and safe practices are the #1 defense against malware, and no anti-virus or security software is going to ever provide 100% flawless protection (because they'll always be at least 1 step behind those writing the malicious code). I'd actually love to see a survey of all those who run AV on their phones who have actually ever averted an incident because of them (seriously, I'm not trolling or saying it doesn't happen, I'm honestly curious as to how often, if ever, it does).

The fact is that if you only install apps from the Play Store from known, trusted developers, then your risk of getting malware on your device is pretty slim. If you want the warm, fuzzy feeling that running security software can provide, then by all means do it.

I work in IT, and I can't tell you how often friends and family will bring me computers that are laden with viruses and malware asking me, "why is my computer so slow and full of popups!!!". When I explain to them that it's full of viruses, they say, "how'd I get a virus?!? I have anti-virus software!!!". Fact is that even with most up-to-date AV, often the only thing security software is good for is telling you that you already have problem. Am I saying nobody should install anti-virus on their computer? No, absolutely not. Am I saying that you should always use safe practices and common sense when doing anything online and not trust AV to act as an infallible protective shield? Yes.

Thanks! I know i need one in my computer but i didnt know we need to install in phones too. I never heard of phones having virus. Maybe because its my first android phone. So i guess i need to install one right now.

There is plenty of malware out there for iPhone as well...

I use Avg mostly for tracking my data usage and the find my phone feature. I haven't tried any of the others.

There were over 8 million hacks on androids last year. They can come on emails, sites, or thru 3g/4g communications, including bar code scanning.

I don't think there's a dedicated way to protect that. If you're forgetful of passwords, there are trusted password managers, one of which being mentioned in an AC news article not too long ago.

Best way to secure your phone is an alphanumeric password (not a pin) for a lock screen. If you want to add another layer, go to the Security settings and enable device encryption, which will require an additional password every time the phone is turned on.

Ok, so I stopped using Avast. I had really good results with TrustGo which includes a backup. The new Samsung-lookout app is good but
it costs extra to match features of TrustGo at $2.99/month. I am currently running both. No slowing down has occurred. However,
I had a problem with Lookout. It blocks apps using a code 0018 as a reason. I have no idea what this is, have been unable to locate it,\
don't know how to overcome it. I'm assuming the app is trying to locate my location which I have no problems with (I cleared all apps).
But cannot find recourse. Will contact ATT about this.
