I've used on the iPhone the 'Find Your Friends' locator app and it is really seamless, in that in only one or at most two clicks I can seem on same opened app screen the locations of my children and spouse. All they had to do was load app and accept once and their location is always available.
Well, I tried to use 'Trusted Contacts / Google Maps" on the N8 and seems more cumbersome. Their location seems to shut off every a few hours or after app closed for awhile so I have to send them an alert and then they accept and then I need to go to google maps from trusted contacts maybe. Anyway, it is not a one-stop easy deal. (my spouse said it was draining her phone battery but that is not confirmed as spouse's word often needs to be confirmed, lol).
Anyway, any simple (&free) way to do this??
I would need the app to be compatible across N8 to the family iPhones.

Try Family Locator by Life360. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.life360.android.safetymapd

You don't need to download any apps, just use Google maps and click on "location sharing"... From there can pick who you want to share your location with. Also remember to click on share "until I turn off," or it might stop sharing after a few hours. It's what I use with my hubby and daughter and it works great! Oh and it's free 😊

Does it work good for you? I tried it and it would never refresh on demand. It was always about an hour behind.

Seems Life360 and Friend Locator and Find My Friends are better than Google version and more like iPhone.

I have to say that the whole concept of someone tracking spouse and even children seems very strange to me. I would never accept a request to allow that.

Is this why you need to track spouse's location?

Man this whole thing seems creepy AF

Sounds like you may be unmarried yet?
Not creepy at all, but just convenient. For example, if you don't want to phone spouse while she is not home like driving or still at work, then check locator - a happy wife is a happy life. Other things like that are convenient including if kids are doing a chore and you want to check where they are, etc.

Not strange at all, but just practical. For example, if you don't want to phone spouse while she is not home like driving or still at work, then check locator - a happy wife is a happy life. I have been married for 49 years in December lol. Perhaps that is why the whole concept is so foreign. If my husband commented that he was tracking me, I would think he had become paranoid. Privacy, independence and autonomy are critical to long term compatibility and happiness imo.

my family and I use life 360. it is nice and we don't find it creepy because honestly it's just a safety net. like if something bad happens. we don't track each other or anything.

I like like 360 because it has a panic mode and stuff. just my .02. oh and Snapchat can do the friend track thing if you don't like Google maps or life 360

Yes, it works great for me. The only thing I find I need to do (and only once in a blue) is to click refresh when I notice it's been a while since anyone moved.

That's a matter of opinion, and of course you're entitled to it. I don't think it's strange at all to want to know where my daughter is (especially.)

People are freaked out about being tracked by family but yet allow companies to know exactly what your purchasing, where your eating, who your texting, what your typing, etc. If your doing nothing wrong, what does it matter if your family has the ability to know your whereabouts anytime they would like to know? I don't mind allowing my family to know where I am because I'm not guilty of anything or paranoid. If I'm supposed to meet them somewhere, I don't have to receive a call or text asking me if I've left yet or how much longer till I get there. They can see where I am anytime they wish.

And another convenience, if my teen says they are going somewhere, they always check in when they get there and I get a notification immediately. Please don't tell me your kids are perfect little angels and would never do anything they're not suppose to. I can then setup a geofence at that location and if they leave, it notifies me. I have my house and my kids school geofenced so I know exactly when they arrive and leave home or school. If they try to leave their phone at the location they are supposed to be at and sneak away, I can simply send them a request to check in anytime I wish and if they don't, something is up. In an emergency such as abduction, they can push the panic button and sends out an alert to every family member and we can track their location. They can simply hide the phone so the perp doesn't know they are being tracked. Those are just a few examples of my uses. I understand it's not full proof but it's better than nothing.

Married with 4 kids, no need to track them I guess...
