Since I'm upgrading soon, I'm trying to figure out whether I should get a microSD or not. I don't know if I'm going to get one the day I purchase my SIII as I want to see if I would be able to get by on the 16gb available. I have the 16gb iPhone 4 with roughly 350 songs, 70+ apps, 400+ pictures (don't really use video), about 20 books and still have 4gb left lol. So to get back to the original reason for this thread...

I have been combing through the threads and noticed that quite a few people have ended up with counterfeits, the cards fried, couldn't be formatted, etc. Those of you who have cards that work, which brand would you recommend and where did you purchase them? I don't really want to spend more than $30. Thanks in advance! :)

You'll normally see the counterfeits on eBay, usually if it's too good to be true then most likely there's something wrong with it. Example if a 10class 32gb card costs around $50-75 and you see it on ebay for $10.
Try using Amazon, they usually have a good prices.

Kingston is a well known name brand as well as SanDisk.

If I am shopping online, I tend to head straight for Tiger Direct. If local, either Staples or Best Buy. When you buy local, you know exactly what you are getting when you get it and if there is something wrong with it, it doesn't take more than a trip back to the store to get it replaced.

As far as brands go, I lean towards Sandisk as a first choice. Never had a bad card yet.

Just what I think.

1) Sandisk
2) Samsung

I received an online coupon that is 50% off any Mobile Accesories off of Samsung's website that expires on Nov 16th. The estimated release date of their new MicroSDXC cards is in October. So I will wait until they are release and use the coupon on a 64GB and 32GB microSD card.

How/where did you get the coupon? Care to share, if possible?

I would share the coupon if there was no limit, but it can be used on a total of 10 items. You get the coupon just for being registered on Samsung's (US) website. I'm not sure if all you have to do is register an account or another Samsung device also.

If I learn that code people received is the same, then i will let people know.

.:edit:.

After a short research I learned that anyone who registers an Samsung.com account and then registers a Samsung Phone (might be only for S3's), then you will get an email with a 50% code. It maybe only for literal mobile accesories like cases, pen, docks, battery. Not sure if SD cards count.

Thanks for the tip, registered and have the discount code.

Even if SD cards count, their prices are so high that buying the equivalent Sandisk card on Amazon is cheaper. Right now the Samsung 32GB card in $89.99 on samsungs website, and Amazon has the Sandisk Ultra Class 10 UHS-1 for $29.15.

Argh, I forgot that Samsung prices/charges more for their SD Cards on their website compared to others. BHPhotovideo.com has the Samsung SD cards at low prices.

Samsung 32GB MicroSD Class 10 ~$ 29.95
Samsung 16GB MicroSD Class 10 ~$ 18.49 - Class 6 ~ $16.95
Samsung 8GB MicroSD Class 10 ~$ 10.94 - Class 6 ~ $ 8.95

Frys and Adorma has the 32GB Class 10 for ~ $29.99

As everyone else has said, be wary of super cheap ones from eBay and Amazon (particularly if it's sold by a marketplace merchant rather than actually sold and fulfilled by Amazon).

I've seen both 16 and 32 GB Class 10 cards go on sale pretty cheap at Best Buy about once a month every month since this summer, but I've never actually seen them advertise the sale. I happened to come across a 32 GB Class 10 in July for $24.99, and I got a 16 GB Class 10 for my sister last month for $19.99. Both are PNY cards and work great.
