I'm looking for a phone under $300 that has a good lifespan and is reliable. I'm an American but I will be living in France for about a year starting January.

I am leaning towards the Honor 7x but not completely sure. I have seen some people conclude it is better than the Moto G5s Plus and a couple others say the G5s Plus is better. It appears to be $80 more, however. I see that its battery is smaller and battery life is important to me.
I like the Honor 7x over the Honor 6x because it seems more likely to continue to get updates, from what I've read the 7x will get Oreo but 6x hasn't been confirmed. I have also read many comparisons of the two and I feel that the improvements to design and processor are worth the $50 extra.
I know 2/3 of these phones have restricted carriers for the US but that's not a big issue for me.

What do you think? Which is most worth it?

I don't know how much is costs there, but my mom just got a J7 Pro to replace her old phone and it's a great device. The only thing I don't like is that like all Samsung J series, the back and recent apps button doesn't light up, but the rest is great.

Software wise, if you're concerned of getting OS updates though, Samsung doesn't have a good track record in the J series. Only the A series and above are assured of at least one OS update. The J series should get security updates though.

Motorola is a great one for updates.

You should also consider Nokia 3 or Nokia 5.

Hello there! As someone who uses an Honor 8 and loves the experience, I certainly recommend the Honor 7X. Looks like it has a great camera and a big battery!

Honor phones are durable as well - I've dropped mine, smashed it into walls (my balance and equilibrium are awful), and don't really use big thick cases for protection. They are beautiful devices to boot.

However, if you do buy the 7X, I recommend you grab a tempered glass screen protector for it; and some kind of a case for the back. Newegg and Amazon sell great TPU clear cases for Honor phones - in fact, I think the case I bought from Newegg last year was made by Honor. The phones hold up well.

Let us know what you decide!

I would recommend the Honor 7X for sure but software updates including security patches are iffy with Huawei.
I would suggest Nokia 6 which is almost in the same ball park price wise and is getting regular updates.
