Hell all. I want to start uploading my photos to an online photo sharing site such as Flickr or Facebook, but I must admit I know nothing about photography or picture sizes, etc. I have been taking pictures at 8MP just because with my limited knowledge of this subject, bigger = better. However, these bigger pictures eat up space really quick. I uploaded 30 photos to Flickr and I'm already at like 60% of my monthly limit.

So, my question to anyone who can help is what size should I be taking pictures in? Is 8MP overkill? I basically take pictures of spontaneous stuff, road trips, time with friends, and my nephew and want to share them online. I don't want them to be blurry or look bad and I also don't want 4 pictures taking up 9000 terabytes of storage :)

So what is a good size to shoot average everyday photos if I just plan on sharing them with friends and family? What would one shoot in 8MP for? And lastly, anyone have a favorite photo sharing site? Ive used photobucket before just to share an occasional pic here and there, but never really looked at it. I just set up a Flickr account as it was already on my phone. I really like how easy it is to upload from my Incredible to Flickr! It lets me upload to any set I want, or created a new set! Some sites are goofy with uploading. Oh ya, whatever I use, I will be shooting all my photos with my Incredible, and want to upload mainly right from my phone rather than transfer them to a computer first. I want the ability to upload anytime at a moments notice.

So if anyone could offer up a bit of advice, I would appreciate it. Mainly on the size I should be shooting pictures in to share with friends via a photosharing site, and occasionally posting on FB or a forum, etc. Thanks much!

to share with people and not care? flickr is fine.
I also pay to host my photos on other sites.
Put them up on flickr and then you can grab direct links to post in the forums.

Yea I just basically want to send links of pictures to friends and family. Just not sure what size I should be shooting in. I want the pictures to look so that people can clearly what I shot, but I don't need 8x10 print quality or nothing! Just to share online and send to people in email and texts.

Ahh that is nice, just went and found that. Thanks. Now still wondering what is a good size to shoot pics in? 3mp good enuff? 1mp even?

Ok also, whats the skinny about taking large pics and then resizing them to send, and keeping a copy of the high rez one. I kno there are programs out there, but any free ones that work well? Easy enuff process to do? Basically is it a viable alternative? Im pretty knowledgeable in computers and tech, it's just that i never looked into graphics or pictures and associated filetypes and sizes!

Also, any apps that will let me shoot in higher quality then compress or resize to send or upload to a photo sharing site? Thanks again.
