Best Setup of Fitness Apps: UA Record, MFP, S Health, MMR, etc.?

I'm trying to make some sense out of all the health app options available for this watch. I'm athletic and stay active. So I'm mostly looking for tracking, measuring progress, etc. The motivation notifications have been a little annoying. I do weight training, conditioning work and run. I'm looking for some advice or personal experiences.

Some of the functionality seems a bit duplicated among the apps but so far I've been doing the following:

  • UA Record for any gym activity. Only issue is it doesn't seem to background. So I can't use the timer app which I use to time between sets. But I can use my phone's timer.
  • Track diet in MFP. Had to disconnect S Health from MFP as it was duplicating exercise from MMR.
  • MMR for running. Sometimes it seems to auto trigger walking my dog but not always.
  • Not use S Health on watch except for sleep tracking and aggregated reporting on my phone. Can't get diet to sync from MFP either.

I'm using Samsung Health exclusively, my IconX and Gear S3. I just got my Gear S3 last week and have only been able to get one run on it so far. My diet goes in Samsung Health. Well, everything is going to SH.

I hope to get to the gym tomorrow and I plan on using the "Other Workout" for tracking my caloric burn and length of workout. I'll use my Bodybuilding.com BodySpace app on my phone to track my workout.

Just a heads up, my understanding is that the "other workout" setting on the watch will not detect HR data.

I'm currently just as confused as OP. However, I actually prefer seeing all the data in Samsung Health. I use Nike Training Club as a workout app, record the workout as "total body" with the UA record on my Gear Sport, then sync it to Samsung Health. The only way so far I can get it to work is by activating the "other workout" tile within Samsung Health. It shows that I worked out, syncs the duration and calories burned and shows it was collected from UA Record, but doesn't show the HR data. I know the HR data is collected in UA Record because I can review it in standalone UA Record app, but it just doesn't show up in Samsung Health. What's confusing is the "Workout Trainer" app has it's very own tile within Samsung Health which syncs all data perfectly, so I don't understand why a partner app like UA Record wouldn't, especially since the partnership seems somewhat strong between UA and Samsung (they gave me a year of premium for free because I bought a new unlocked Note 8) It would be perfect if I could just record the workout with UA Record and view all the details in Samsung Health. I feel like I'm being nit picky but it seems overly complicated for no reason. Record my workout, sync all the recorded data with the app I want...
