One of my favorite phones of all time was the Sony Compact Z3. It had a great camera, waterproofing, and a decent battery life. That feels like forever ago and I always went with the larger phones after that because they always seemed to have some distinctive advantage. I am so thankful for Google putting that notch on the XL this year because it made me buy the Pixel 3 instead.

This phone has it all, great battery, great speakers, beautiful screen, an unbelievable camera, and it feels perfect with one handed use.

My first response was disappointment about the price and now that I have been using it for a full day I can say it is a fair price and glad I made the decision to buy it and get rid of my iPhone X.

...Pixel 3

Well I don't know if I would say best of the year just yet after 2 days use but I am enjoying it so far.

If the screen is usable outside and I can get use to the app switching I might say it's as good as my s9. We'll have to see

Pixel 3 definitely gets my vote for phone of the year, especially in the standard size category. XS is close second, tho.

The utility and UX with the device is just so tough to beat. As an example, was listening to the Verge Podcast and their discussion around just the wide angle camera "brilliance" highlights this fact. There's enough market demand to take selfies from slightly farther away, that selfie sticks exist and Google resolved that UX through the wide angle camera.

Is the battery lasting?

Battery is subjective to user case and there's no real way to compare use between people. Also, the batteries are still very new and need to still "settle in".

With that in mind, here's what my personal usage looked like last night.

I have been very pleasantly surprised with battery life. I forgot to put it on the charger last night and picked it up and had 45% left.

I've been waiting for this phone for years. "Big" screen in a perfect size phone, brilliant camera, great battery, wireless charging (YAY! AT LAST!), secure software with regular security updates, and waterproof. I'd always like more battery life but you can't have everything. I can charge at work and in my car if needed so I don't need the discomfort or extra weight of a bigger phone.

I've been a very happy regular Pixel 2 user for the last year and I look forward to using this for another couple of years. I love phones but don't want to switch every year any more. No need.
