Best SMS for Thunderbolt

The stock SMS app is horrible. Force closes on me all the time. Is there a better option? I used Handcent when I had the Incredible but judging from the comments on the app itself Handcent is no longer as good as it used to be. Is there another SMS app that is better then the stock one or is Handcent still the best option? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Have you tried clearing "data" in the manage applications menu for the messaging app? This often fixes force closures.

I liked handcent a little better I think, but I've been using GoSMS for a few days and really like it too, so I plan on sticking with it for awhile.

Go SMS: Is there a way to customize the pop-up buttons? The todo button is pretty useless. Also the quick text is really only useful in the pop-up. I don't understand why its only accessible from inside a conversation in portrait mode.

my only big complaint with TB was that in stock sms, i would select a thread but it would open a totally different convo and contact, and i would be sending the wrong msgs to the wrong ppl.. thank god i didnt send anything that would get me in trouble lol...but have been using go sms for the last week and it is simply AWESOME!!!

Not sure how many times we are going to see this thread restart... I'm sure I've seen at least two or three.

My choice is still Handcent... no issues will lag, or anything else... very customizable, and I'm very happy with it.

Works better than stock SMS app, but its only a keyboard really.

Go SMS Pro and Swype work fine together. The caps and auto-space work unlike the stock SMS.

The only problem I have with Go SMS is how it handles groups. I'm a coach for my sons' football team and I send out texts to all the parents for reminders and such. GO SMS pro will not recognize groups in the "to" field. So I type "flag football" into the field and it does't find anything, the stock SMS program will recognize this. On Go SMS, I have to click on the groups, scroll down, and click the group I want to send to. And that's still a bit buggy. A slight annoyance, but not enough to stop using it.

But besides the "Group" texts, it works great.

Open the stock app, then tap Menu -> settings -> uncheck "Received notification".

Thanks, but that's not the point. The GoSMS pop-up sux. I don't want to turn it off, I want it to be useful.
As it is only two of the four buttons are useful. There is no access to quick text. If the screen dims the pop-up hides behind the lock screen with no icon in the notification bar.
