Lately I've notice my eyes getting sore reading my phone. A 5.2" Nextbit.
And I am pretty sure it's because I can't handle the small (I know 5.2" isn't small) screen anymore.

One option is to stop looking at my phone so much. Another is to buy a tablet.
Another option is to buy some stupidly large 6.5" phone.

I don't want one of these new 6" 2:1 long screened phones. They still will have a thin width and small text.

Are there any big fat phablets out there that are not terrible phones?

Huawei Mate 9 from last year is a large screen phone with the 16:9 ratio and has a 5.9" screen.
If you can tolerate slightly slower data speeds try the Huawei Honor Note 8 (6.6 " screen) or the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (6.44" screen).

Of course if you can manage to find a Tab S2 from last year - especially an international version you can have a 8.0" screen which is a full fledged phone. I had one and absolutely loved it until I left it in the seat pocket of an American Airlines plane in July of this year.

You can actually adjust font sizes to stupidly huge. Unless that's a Samsung thing. I have a boss who has a Note 5 and his fonts are set so big that I can read it clearly while seated behind him.

Lenovo's Phab 2 line are large screen phones.
Too bad they're stuck on Marshmallow.

I have a rock bottom Phab 2 that I replaced with the Sony Xperia XA Ultra.
My daily is the Huawei Mate 9 which I want to replace with the One Plus 5T.

I know exactly what you mean! I've always had large (wide screen) phones. Can't stand the tall and narrow new ones. I had the Samsung Note and Note 4, but now I have the Huawei Mate 9. I love the screen dimensions - and I don't think it's stupidly large. Feels good in the hand too.

You could just try out the "Smallest Width" setting for example... (They are in the developer options)

The smaller the number, the bigger everything gets :) (U activate the developer options by pressing a lot of times onto your model number)

I'm using my Sony XA Ultra much more recently even though it's nowhere near the performance level of the Mate 9.

If you are really going for an oversized phablet, I'd recommend the Xiaomi Mi Max 2

I am Xiaomi user for 3 years now and really love Xiaomi's MIUI.

Downside: outside of China, India and a few other Asian countries, you will not find any service center. So you have almost no sopport on the hardware side.

Software support is very good. The MIUI community is awesome!

gremcph did you buy a phone? I was looking for something very large too, as a secondary device to play with. I only found the two mentioned here. The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (6.4”) & Huawei Honor Note 8 (6.6”).

I did not know about the Lenovo Phablet 2 so I appreciate that tip guytronic.

Im in the U.S. and not looking to put a sim in right away but would like it to play nice with ATT.

Please post if I missed any other 6.4”+ options released in 2016/17

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is 6.3"; so a bit smaller than others you were looking at, but still pretty big!

Go to swappa and find a Nexus 6!! I love my OP 5T but the Nexus 6 is my next favorite of all-time and I have owned a lot of phones.
