Don't download ANY task killer. It does A LOT more harm than good. The HTC Inspire's OS (android 2.2 AKA Froyo) was meant to multitask and deal with juggling apps. Task killer hinders and ruins this ability for the phone and you will start seeing freezes, crashes, bad battery life, among other things. If you open netflix, youtube, facebook, angry birds, and your email and have all of that running in the background you may consider holding the top button and pressing RESET if you feel all the apps are causing your battery life to die or your phone to be sluggish...or if it will just ease your mind haha...this should suffice and won't harm your phone.

As already mentioned, don't bother with a task killer.

As far as limiting data usage... Here are a couple of tips I know.

Turn off any automatic updates and push notifications for things that you don't need constant updates for.

If that doesn't work, turn off the "Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Enable always-on mobile data" option. This will shut down the data connection when the Inspire goes to sleep.

If you want to get extreme with it, put a widget on one of your home pages to turn off data. Under Personalize -> Widget you can select the widget for Settings -> Mobile Network, and get an icon/widget which will allow you to quickly toggle data on/off.

Edited: Added the following comment Note, I haven't tested it, but you may find that turning off data (either manually, or when the phone sleeps via disabling the always-on mobile data option) will keep you from receiving text messages until the data/mobile network is turned back on.

Having the mobile network off won't prevent you from receiving text messages. I usually leave mine off and only turn it on when I need to use it. I can still send/receive text messages. However, MMS does need a data connection (either mobile or wifi). But I'm pretty sure that if you try to send an MMS with no data connection on, it will automatically turn on mobile and turn it back off when the message has sent.

I don't recommend a task killer but if you must use a third party task manager I would go with Watchdog. It let's you know which one of your apps are hogging all the CPU and allows you to see what's running but doesn't recklessly autokill. Allowing you to end processes yourself.

You have to enable data to send MMS. If you are sent one while data is off you will be notified, but will have to enable data to download it. There will be an option to do this in the mesage thread. Also the above advice to disable auto sync is good. I also make it a point to go through known apps that update in the backround and disable auto updates (Facebook, News, Weather, Stocks, ect.). I have always disabled my data connection from day one when not in use. It saves data, as well as battery life.

ps. Task killers are bad for your phone.
