Best USB Tether Application

I am looking for a good USB tether application that allows 4G internet access for a non-rooted phone. I hear there are bluetooth ones, but they only can do 3G speeds. Do any of these applications work with both Mac and PC? Is it really as easy as just plugging it into your laptop, or do you need to install drivers/programs?
