best video and music app

Was wondering what you all would suggest..

Especially after the kit Kat update VLC has stopped recognising vids on the sd card..

Would be good to see what others suggest.. also I've noted on the stock via player the max volume is still very faint

I know MX Player is good and also Plex (on the app store).
