So I just picked up the tab s6. What's the best way to get connectivity off my note 10+ when out and about ? Is mobile hot spot the way to go or is there something that auto reconnects when in range such a Bluetooth tethering ?

What's the best options and why? And if it is hot spot has anyone found a hack to get a hot spot toggle into the quick settings pull down?

Lastly, is there a way to set it as a metered connection so the tab s6 doesn't do app updates and whatnot while connect to my phone and short of turning off auto update? I'd still like updates to happen automatically when connected to traditional wifi

You can use Flow, which has an option that upon connection to your tablet, if it has no internet access, it will automagically use the Note's connection instead.

hrmm so I got Samsung flow setup.. and in theory it would do almost exactly what I'm looking for (except for I don't see anything about metered connection as stated)

BUT I have to manually launch flow on both the phone and the tablet and click allow on the phone everytime I want to start it? that can't be right.. I think it's more work then going into connections and turning on hot spot each time. at least that way the tablet automatically connects..

Yes, for this to work Flow needs to be active on both devices. But if you leave them open, it should automatically connect when in range... IF you leave them open.

Another option might be automation apps like Tasker, but pretty sure (might be wrong) it needs root to control hotspot functions. There you would set a rule that whenever you have the tablet's BT in range/connected, the phone automatically turns hotspot on (and if you leave your tablet to connect automatically to that hotspot, the rest should be without user interaction). Same rule can be applied to turn Hotspot off.

Not sure if similar actions are possible with Bixby Routines (not sure if you can set those up to BT connections in range/connected).

I have my Note 10 + on Sprint. My plan is unlimited. I use my phone's Hotspot for Internet on the Tab S6. Works out well :) Mine doesn't have the option for a sim card otherwise I'd probably have it on its own data.

That is why I went ahead and got the Verizon version this time... Data is not that expensive as a second line.

I have an S10 and an S6. Both support Auto Tether if the same Samsung account is on both. The only thing I have to do is turn on tethering on the S10. The tablet then connects automatically. No additional software required.

I had forgotten about that! Flow probably just uses the same thing, but again, no 'metered connection' option...

On your phone's settings, go to Connections, Mobile Hotspot and Tethering, tap the Mobile Hotspot area (not the toggle) to see more options and at the bottom you'll see a toggle for 'Auto Hotspot'. Thanks @BaritoneGuy for the tip!
